Hey there! There are several inter-racial couples in my neigborhood. The subdivision we live in (and trying to sell our home due to hubbys job xfer) is honestly a melting pot of ethnicity, nationalities, ages and generations. Check out: Indy Dream Family Home for more information on the subdivision where we live and community of Indianapolis.

(Something to think about for it is true and terribly sexist.) The police would be suspect about a blk. male w/ white female because of prevailing racist stereotype we live w/ in the U.S.A
In some sections of Los Angeles county, dating out of your race is not an issue unless you are being defensive or snooty to begin with.
I am used to being stared at and do not feel anger towards anyone who just can't understand. There is nothing to understand. We are a couple who are law-abiding, intelligent, friendly people. Neither one of us is from Indiana and each of us grew up in artistic, creative households...so there' are very few "hang ups" as to how life should be. Our time here will be short and we will enjoy it while we are here. Otherwise, end of story....and have a great life here!

I guess it depends on who you run into, but this certainly isn't true of all blacks in Indy. I'm black and have dated white and I have black friends and coworkers who have dated whites, as well. Certainly, black male/white female couples can be spotted with some regularity here. Most people I know don't make an issue about it.
Hoosiers are a strange breed. I was born here and I still receive strange looks and comments on my "proper" manner of speech with some regularity.

We live on the west side of Indy and I have to tell you that being biracial is not pleasant here, at least in the city. My son and his girlfriend...son - caucasian and girlfriend - african american have put up with alot.
It can really strain your relationship and people do not make it any easier. They've been together 4 years now and while they are learning to ignore the slurs they are still there and anytime they go out you can bet someone will make a comment or try to make their lives miserable. And it won't be just the whites...it will be from many different cultures. They rise above it, so if you have a strong personality you will be able to handle it, but be assured you will have to deal with it. California is totally different!
Also, you do not want to live in Mooresville for the same reason as Martinsville.
Personally, I wouldn't live here if I were in your shoes but that's just one persons thoughts.

My husband (he is black and I am white) and I live in Carmel. We have been here for 3 years. We have never seen ANY sign of racism. Neither have we heard any slurs or seen any negative reaction to our being an interracial couple. In fact, we laughed about the time that he had to call the Carmel Police at 2am because he had locked his keys in the car. He said that that was the "acid test": seeing how the police react to a black man in the middle of the night in Carmel. The police officer was helpful and professional. He was a great representative of our city.
By the way, I did live in California when I was young and found that there the Hispanics were maligned. So no place is without its faults. Too bad that some people feel they always must have an ethic or religious group that they have to put down.
Anyway, I think Carmel is a great place to live and it getting more culturally diverse all the time. There is so much to do and the new building that is going on makes me glad we bought a house here!

This DID happen and it will take a long long long time for this tragic incident to pass, if it ever will.

I know that martinsville has a bad rep, I lived there my whole life, and now I am living in Mooresville and getting ready to move to Chicago. I know what happened was bad, and will forever give Martinsville this bad vibe...but did anyone take the time to read that the men who killed the lady WERE NOT FROM MARTINSVILLE!! Something horrible happened in our town, by people who were not even residents, and now we have to pay for their own stupidity, cruelness and ignorance. Martinsville is not a bad place. It is a small town (but it is growing very quickly) I graduated with 300 kids in my class, so it isn't exactly that small of a town anymore. I just wish people would stop and read the facts.

Maybe it's just me, but I have always thought that couples are interracial, not bi-racial. The offspring of these couples are considered bi-racial.
