Does it rain a lot in the summer or is it fairly sunny and dry? I am not used to humidity AT ALL. We can get 100's and 110's arent infrequent here, but no humidity. Would you take a walk in the summer in Indy? Is a soccer game possible in July without passing out?

And my youngest brother is looking for "trendy" downtown apartments with shopping nearby. Does Indy have such a place with nice apartments in a downtown setting?

Not exceptionally rainy- It does get a little humid but rarely if ever, makes it to 100 degrees. Summers in Indy are great for outdoor activities & yes, a soccer game is very possible

Here are the average temps for Indy- Jan.-Dec. As you can see, even in July/August, it's under 90.

34/18, 40/22, 51/32, 63/41, 74/52, 82/61, 86/65, 84/63, 77/55, 66/44, 52/34, 39/24

Soccer isn't bad in the summer, it's tennis that's the killer! The courts are 10 degrees hotter during the summer and it can be miserable.

But the humidity can get stifling. I remember last summer, it was bad down here in Columbus. It never rained. So far, we've had a wet spring, so maybe it won't be so dry this summer.

you'll love the (lack of) traffic and be amazed by low housing prices, lower cost of living, ample cheap parking

you'll miss (if you enjoy these things out there) relatively short drive to mountains/skiing, ocean/bay/SF, ethnic restaurants, weather, world-class attractions

Default humidity?

If u dont like the humidity here u should try st. louis or chi-town where they actually have humidity. The weather here is pretty mild for most people.

I think I can provide some insight seeing that I am originally from NE Indiana and moved to Pleasanton in 2001. For me, moving to the Bay Area was a culture shock with the horrible traffic, high cost of living, and the general pace of everyday living. Zionsville is an upscale area with good schools and a very low crime rate, so in that regard you will be on par with Pleasanton. You'll need to get used to fewer sunny days back in the Hoosier state. Don't expect many of the cloud-free days like we get out here from April through October. The winters will be an adjustment for you I'm sure. I'm biased, but I think Indiana people in general are more friendly and down-to-earth than the folks out here. Overall, I don't think the culture shock will be that significant. Certainly less so than what I experienced moving from a small town in Indiana to California.

Fishers is more lively and fastest growing city in the nation. Carmel and Zionsville are a bit deserted and sleepy cities. More home for your money and lively city. Think about it.

Fishers: Fastest growing, Diversified, More home for money, lively, more water front homes

Carmel: : Diversified, good schools, sleepy and lonely, good for raising kids.

Zionsville: Not Diversified, rich, good schools, sleepy and lonely

Thanks for your input! We're actually from Western NewYork, so I think we'd be ok with the weather, although we are quite spoiled now (been here 3 years).
What about Tornados? Just curious, just something to think about. I've never been around Tornados and they look REALLY scary!
Is Zionsville similar to Pleasanton or would you say Carmel or any other suburb would be similar? I really love Pleasanton, we just can't buy a home here and we have two small kids and plan to have one or two more.
Did you move back to Indiana?
I'm a little nervous about the job market out there? As I said, we were living in Buffalo, NY before and the economy there was horrible. It's GREAT out here (don't know if it'll last much longer). My hubby does remodels, so if people don't have extra money to do a remodels, we won't make it there. You know how it is in Calif, people drop $50K on a kitchen remodel, it's crazy!
Let me know any other thoughts you have! Thanks!!!

Default Finally Made it

We have finally moved to Peru. We got here last Tuesday and though it has been humid, the weather has been great! I love all the storms, though I am glad it isn't flooding here like it is in south Indy. We have all adjusted to the time change and the kids are so excited to jump in the car and drive around! We are still looking for a place to rent a house, Peru or Logansport is what we are thinking. My hubby works in Kokomo so there isn't that much of a drive and we both agree Kokomo is not the place for us! We fell in love with Roanoke the other day but the commute to work is long that way. If hubby ever gets transferred to the Ft. Wayne terminal though, we will be looking to settle in Roanoke!
We are throughly enjoying being here so far. The kids are still adjusting to the new routine and being so far away from the rest of the family, but we do have my dad and his wife and her family out here! Once we get a routine settled we will be out and about looking to meet new aquaintances and friends!
