Default Carmel/Fishers

I am moving to Indiana soon and I was wondering what is the best choice: Carmel or Fishers. It will be just me and my wife (and the dog) (kids in college - will visit us often - I hope). We like a flavor of urban life, restaurants, shopping, malls, etc as well as bike trails, sports, etc. We will look for house around $300K say ~2500 sq ft. Carmel looks great as well as Fishers. I will work in Indianapolis downtown. Your comments will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

If you are looking for a flavor of urban life - I would recommend Carmel. it has at least at this time more of a downtown area (which is where I happen to live). Carmel also has the Monon trail which goes right through "downtown Carmel" It is still very much a suburb though.

Clay Terrace mall is in Carmel. I suppoose however that Fishers is slightly closer to the Fashion Mall and Castleton Mall.

Commutes to downtown I suppose are about the same - depending on exactly where you live. (Zionsville has a better commute downtown - but is less urban for sure)

Overall though there really isn't much difference between Fishers and Carmel. I guess if I were you, I would look into both areas

BU191433, thank you so much. One more question: How long to commute from Carmel/Fishers to Indianapolis?

Default Best other options for commute downtown?

Any areas in other directions that offer similar quality of life/lifesytle but are closer to 15-20 minutes from downtown? With newer housing stock under $400k? I have a 10 minute commute now in STL and don't want to triple it.

I think Carmel and Fishers are both North...what about east or west or south of town? HELP!

look on the west side...
Avon / Plainfield / Brownsburg are....~Google~ it and click on maps to see the whole area. I'm hunting all these areas now. Co workers(who have lived here for years) are actually making it more difficult as they included the towns I mentioned above...so I added them to my northside list of psbl places to live now as well..
Decisions - decisions...I do know the drive from up north 465 area can severly impact your commute time- especially out Near Fishers~!

Default Carmel or Fishers

I live in Carmel and my spouse works in Fishers. I would recommend Carmel the taxes here are the least expensive of all of Hamilton County: You are close to many things: Shopping, resturants, banking, hiking ect.

I recently moved to indy and considered carmel and fishers only because of children and schools. If I were an empty nester I would look for something closer to work - downtown, broadripple, or other nice areas inside indy. There really is a lot to do downtown, why bother to commute if you don"t have to?

Broad Ripple is about 15-20 minutes from downtown and more of and urban feel then boring Carmel and Fishers. Honestly not going to find much of that in Indy but Broad Ripple is the most happening and not to bad if you can deal with a bunch of 20's preppy crowd. I would look between College and Keystone St south of Kessler and north of 52nd. Some awesome houses and in your price range. If you like vinyl village stay in Carmel and Fishers but if you want a house with history and elegance look in this area.
