Default Building a house?

As I mentioned in my previous thread, I am moving to Indianapolis area soon. I am not sure if I will end up in Carmel, Fishers, or other place nearby. I was wondering if instead of buying a house (~$300K), I would have a better deal having a contractor building a new one. Getting a contractor in certain states/cities has become very risky (I am not sure about Indy area). Please advise. Thank you all.

Buy used - better deals - more bang for buck - plenty of inventory.

Look into foreclosures - even better deals if your willing to put a little work (paint, new carpets, etc)

There is a lot to choose from, and that price will get you a lot of home. There are some good builders, but with so much inventory and sellers who are desperate for offers, you might do better with that. Either way, use a Realtor!
