Hi There, We are moving from phoenix, az to Indianapolis in mid june. I need some words of encouragment to help me do this. I have lived in Phoenix my whole entire life (42years) and I have always hated here. to many reasons why! I am thinking about the move way too much alway worrying if I would ever make there, are there good jobs, would the weather bother me, alwaying thinking about the "WHAT IF's"... I know people move clear across the country on a whelm. in broken down cars, vans. trucks, or whatever they are driving and they make it seem like it's no big deal. WOW!! my hats off to them. I am going to do this I just need to a bigger set of (you know what it is). lol we don't know anyone there all my family lives here in Az. My wife and kids are ready to go right now if they had it thier way. lol we have been looking in the Avon, Brownsburg area for housing hope they are good cities. thanks for your advise if you have any. bye for now Larry

I have packed up and moved a lot in my life. I always just try to look for the positives to a new adventure. Just jump in with a cheerful attitude and think of the wonderful things about moving to a new place. I'm from Indiana, but I've lived in Missouri, Alabama, and Virginia. Now I"m happy to be back home again in IN. I live in Avon and I like it here a lot.

To ease your mind, I definitely wouldn't recommend moving without a job lined up. The job market in Indianapolis is not bad at all...however, I would hate to think that you'd pack up and move without lining something up if you need to do so. Moving is stressful enough - there's no need in adding extra financial pressures if avoidable. Many job postings are online and Indiana is home to some large businesses - so I think you'll be fine. We have opportunities on all levels / types of employment.
If your kids are school aged, I think it would also reduce your stress to make sure that any special needs that have are addressed in advance (i.e. - I couldn't move from a doctor's office/hospital because I was a sickly child). All of our school townships are decent. People bicker about which ones are better - but I wouldn't let that alter my decision too much - especially as it seems like you want a more suburban lifestyle. The weather here changes...alot. So, be prepared for that. But, I love Indiana falls and admit that I must pay for them with springtime allergies. We have a very hot summer, and a cold winter. Hope you like snow - sometimes we get a load - other years, almost nothing! Ultimately, if you have a place to live & a job (assuming you need one) - I think everything else will fall into place. Welcome to the Hoosier state! |

It is good you are moving here during the summer mainly because it will be very warm when you get here and the transition to winter will be gradual. if you move in January and go from 70 degree weather to 10 that can be an extreme shock

Since you're coming from Phoenix, I'm not going to tell you that it's hot here in the summer. You know what hot is
& it's not Indy~ I used to think it was oh so hot here in the summers until I moved to Florida. We are now back in Indy (Avon)for the summer & I'm LOVING this summer weather. I know what it's like back in FL right now![]() Now the winters might be an adjustment for you Judging from your OP, you should be here by now or very soon. You'll like Browsburg/Avon~ great areas. |

I have to concur with the former posting - job first. Once done - you can fine tune your search as to where to live in-around INdy. Indy in general is a very family friendly place, lots to do and overall very nice people. I am familiar with the public school systems N. or Indy - Carmel Clay and Hamilton - and it would be a tough debate as to which were best, but both are of a high enough calibre that you do not need to consider private schooling. I must also echo the weather issue - we moved in January to Indy and within 4 weeks had 5 seasons! I include tornado as one separate season.
good luck with the transition! |
