Moving to Indy area
Hi !! What a great group of people on this forum !! I have yet another question to ask about Indianapolis. We are selling our home and moving to the Indy area but like so many others, we can't decide exactly where to settle! It is a bit overwhelming ! I had originally been looking at Fishers,Avon,Brownsburg and Carmel but now I am finding better prices on homes in Marion County. So, here is the first of what I am sure will be a ton of questions for all of you experts !
I would love to hear all the up sides and down sides of Wayne Township. I have found a few homes there that really look nice on the internet but pictures don't tell all. Specifically the houses are in Fox Orchard, Parc Estates North and Westridge Village. Are these safe areas and convenient to shopping areas?
I have no children in school anymore so schools are not an issue.
Any advice would be welcomed and thank you in advance!!!

Is everyone on vacation today ??? 
Or was my question too specific???? 
Would also love more input on Fishers--is there an area of Fishers that has more character, i.e., not big developments, but where I could find a house that is also not outdated??

I am not at all familiar with Wayne. however, other than that your info is so general that no one can suggest anything. Price, condition, age, size, what is important, not important, etc.
I would give much different answers if someone wants a 125,000 3/2 in a subdivision close to XXX and close to YYY than someone who just asks about Fishers.
Indy is BIG. There are all kinds of housing in all price ranges and close to a variety of types of areas.
I promote living close to work to limit commute time and expense. Period.
I will put up with a lot to get that. I work downtown so it equates to a more expensive house but the compromise is worth it to me. Your inquiry has nothing to guide anyone. Maybe no one from those subdivisions is on the board.

Yeah, I have spent a fair amount of time in Wayne Township; but I am not sure where those subdivisions are. If they are west of I465 they are probably ok, but without some more specifics it is tough to offer advice. Generally speaking, the areas along and west of I-465/Lynnhurst Dr in Wayne township are ok. West 10th has some restaurants, as does West 38th Street. Rockville Road has a lot of stuff too near the Avon border and then heading into Avon.

This is funny I live in Indy and I'm moving to Roanoke!!! I live in carmel,and it is a little more for housing but it's worth it. The shopping is great and the area is very nice!! They just finished central park it is really nice!! The website for the park is Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation : Avon and Fishers are good too. Avon would be the best. As far as Wayne township area.....well it is on the east side and there are reasons that the housing is lower,it's okay but not that great. Hope this helps

Wayne Twp. has some nice areas, and some which are not so good. Even though you don't have kids, it is important for your resale value to keep schools in mind. I can't think of exactly where those neighborhoods you mention are, if I had maybe some larger cross-streets, that might jog my memory.

Thanks for your help. I haven't actually mapquested the houses in Wayne County but I will do that this morning.
We are trying to find a house for less than $250,000. We started to travel a few years ago and I decided that I would rather spend my money on that rather than to spend it all on house payments !
We are hoping that this will be our last move but it seems like we thought that when we moved here four years ago.
We do have a realtor and he is shooting me lots of homes but I also am searching lots myself.
I am hoping to buy a 4 bedroom,2 1/2 bath with a basement already finished or partially finished and a 3 car garage, if possible. That is not set in stone,but it is a starting point.
We currently own a house that is 4 BR,3 1/2 ba,all brick on an acre of property. I notice that there doesn't seem to be as many all-brick homes in the Indy area as there are here. I also seem to be finding that many of the homes look the same whether they are listed for 225,000,for example, or 300,000. And when I see houses that are 4000 square feet they don't seem to be any larger than the ones that are 3,000 sq feet. I do find this a little strange and it also makes the search via internet that much more difficult.
We had visited Avon a couple months ago and we really did like what we saw. However, I have started to wonder if it is a bit too rural for me. We live in a small subdivision right now which only has about 25 homes and the smallest lot is one acre, so we are spread apart a bit. We do however live a bit too far away from things though. We can't even get pizza delivery here!! Or cable !!
I want nice neighbors. I would love to have sidewalks again ! And I want to be able to either walk to some shopping area or to get into my car and be there in a few minutes. And I don't want to pass lots of cows on the way to the grocery store anymore!!
I wouldn't mind living in Carmel but I really don't know if it is worth the extra money. It truly seems like my dollars don't go nearly as far there.
I really don't know if I will like living in a true cookie cutter community(or vinyl village).
I really don't want to live in an older home with dark woodwork and an outdated kitchen.
I am soooo lost !!!!!
I will try to mapquest the house in Parc Estates in Wayne Township--which I believe though is on the west side of Indy. (??)
I am open to any and all suggestions--really !!!

Yes, Wayne Twp is on the West side of Indy. The homes there will be older than in Avon. I live in Avon, and I'm really happy here. We do have pizza delivery and I am literally 3 minutes from door-to-door for my office, groceries, movie theater, and shoe shopping. Downtown Indy is about 20-30 minutes when I want to go there. I would just say, don't rule it out.

For new homes with character (and many colors), you may want to look at Saxony in Fishers and also look at all Hanson and Horn communities.

You can find a mixture of everything in Wayne township--old houses, new houses, riff-raff, well-to-do, some pockets of high crime areas. Of course, Marion County got hit hard by property taxes, so that might be something to think about before you buy.
You might find Mooresville, Plainfield, or Greenwood a good choice. Mooresville has the the most affordable housing of the three, but it lacks the amenities of the other two, although Heartland Crossing is just down the road and Walmart moved in, so it will just be a matter of time before even more businesses locate there. Mooresville is a very family friendly town small town with a low crime rate, yet is close enough to Indy and other major area attractions/malls, but without the traffic congestion.
Plainfield is a growing community, with a new open-air mall and other retail and dining establishments popping up all of the time. It still retains some small town charm.
Greenwood is the largest of the three towns and has a lot more schools--public and private, fitness, shopping, and dining choices. It is more ethnically diverse than the other two towns.
With the economy the way it is right now, you can get a lot of house for the money.
