it happens. im 1/2 asian. i think asian issues are understated. dont get the exposure of AA or latinos. discrimination is not a white problem and never should have been handled as such. its our problem all of us. way too much of it. i have a dream.

In what way?

Also, just how many schools have you attended? Do you frequently change schools, or are you a professional student?

Weird that someone would revive a year-old post to talk about IUPUI (and for his/her first post ever). I was visiting IUPUI campus a few weeks ago for the first time ever and was amazed at how diverse it was. My guess is the student population at IUPUI is nearly 40% nonwhite, with a huge foreign-born and international contingent. I would have expected this from IU or Purdue, but IUPUI draws far more homegrown kids from the Indianapolis area. More proof that Indy is increasingly becoming a diverse place; I think I read recently that it had the 3rd fastest growing immigrant population of any city in the country.

I'm really looking forward to studying there, but since I've never been to Indianapolis, I'm a bit worried about how bad the racism can get.

Before coming to the UK, I was living in a Southeast Asian country so it was fine, but here I get a few "ching chong ping pong/what the hell are you doing with our tax money/etc." comments. Does it get much worse than that in Indianapolis?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
I don't know who suggested that Indy has a racist attitude toward Asians, but I have never experienced it here. In fact, as a college student at IU in Bloomington, I heard many, many more snarky comments about the Asian students than I ever heard growing up in Indianapolis or living here since I graduated.

You won't find a "Chinatown" or "little Italy" like the largest cities in America, but Indy is a big city with a lot of different ethnic communities. I would honestly be shocked if you felt anything but welcome here.

Welcome to Indianapolis. Good luck at IUPUI.
