Default Racism against Asians?

Hello!

I'm a Southeast Asian undergrad student in the UK who's about to go study at IUPUI in a few months. I've heard lots of people tell me that Indianapolis isn't very Asian friendly (and that Bloomington is a much better place apparently), and that I should expect a lot of redneck sentiments. I'm really looking forward to studying there, but since I've never been to Indianapolis, I'm a bit worried about how bad the racism can get.

Before coming to the UK, I was living in a Southeast Asian country so it was fine, but here I get a few "ching chong ping pong/what the hell are you doing with our tax money/etc." comments. Does it get much worse than that in Indianapolis?

Thanks in advance for any advice! :)

Definately, Bloomington and West Lafayette are the most Asian friendly cities in Indiana. I've seen some intense racism against Asians in rural areas of Indiana (I grew up in Huntington). Indianapolis, I'm not sure about though.

Racism in Indianapolis against Asians? Mind you, I am not Asian, but I can not imagine that being an issue in Indianapolis. I know a few people of Asian descent, they have never expressed concern over that in Indianapolis.

Default no racism against asians in indiana

I grew up in a small town in southern Indiana and we had a few Japanese factories in town. We welcomed the Asians and their jobs with open arms. This same town is now welcoming Honda.

I don't know what interpol is talking about. My hometown is smaller than Huntington and not exactly the most progressive place ever.

You will be more than fine in Indianapolis. If racism exists in Indiana, it is against blacks, not asians.

That's just not true, I'm not sure where your 'sources' are getting this info.

No worries, you'll be fine- And best of luck at IUPUI!

Not sure why there would be so many Asians here if they did not feel welcome??? I'm sure there will the odd ball uneduacated inbred that you might encounter that grew up in the back woods somewhere who might not care to much for anyone other than whites, but those morons are in any place but they do not represent the mentality of the entire city
