Question Question about Relocation & Mortgage Lenders

Our family will be moving to Indianapolis from the east coast in a few months and we're currently researching mortgage lenders to get our preapproval taken care of. I was wondering whether we should work with a loan officer out here (in Connecticut) from a national company that also has an Indy branch, or go with a local lender in Indianapolis. Are there any advantages to working with someone local? The major disadvantage of that is that we're not there and can't meet with them in person. What about an online broker like lendingtree - their suggestions have been pretty random (i.e., companies in Houston, Delaware, etc.) Any advice?

I'm sure lots of you have dealt with buying a house from across the country, so please let me know how you have done it and what the pros and cons are.

Also, if anyone has recommendations of reputable lenders, I'd be grateful to see a list. TIA

I have had a very bad experience with a buyer using Lending Tree, the rate was wonderful, but the company was awful! We learned our lesson!

I do work with a lot of great mortgage people who have earned my trust. I would suggest that you speak with a Realtor in the area where you would like to move, and ask them for a few referrals to choose from.
