But remember Lilly is continuing to "reallocate" (layoff) jobs and those people are being dumped on the local market with Lilly skills. Although they always seem to find new jobs.

I'm an ex-Lilly and I know the company has had a hire freeze for a long time. The re-allocation process is also not fun as you may end up doing something you don't like or doesn't have a good growth prospect.

The biggest benefit to having worked there is how your career gets a nice push when you look outside the company. It's well regarded and recognized, that's for sure.

Some stats are wrong. They say Chicago has tons of tech jobs, but try getting a call back from anything listed on Careerbuildere or YahooHotJobs. They are all consulting companies and recruiters offering $35k a year jobs and expecting 5-10 years experience. You need nothing less than $70k a year to survive in Chitown. The companies hire H1-B Hindu/Paki's all the time and pay them peanuts.
