Guilty.

And DC38, you have your opinion, I have mine...based upon my experiences. Again, the personal attacks that were noted in earlier posts are evident in your statement. You think Indy is at the top, that's your opinion...I do believe the purpose of this thread is to ask individuals their varying opinions. Maybe it's you who should step outside Indy and experience what other cities of comparable size have to offer. Go to Minneapolis. Try Milwaukee in the summer.

Having an opinion is fine, but come on! People in Cincinnati even think their downtown is dead after 5. It is one thing to make factual statements; but come on! Covington and Newport are not downtown Cincy. For the record, I think Minneapolis is a blast!

Any city that can support two MLB teams is a baseball city.
Are you jealous because Indy is mostly just a drive-by city for people while traveling to other places? If you blink while going through it you will miss it.

Well you know it does look much better than the Dome did from the outside at least.
My provoked limited Indy bashing mode is now off.
I stated what I had to, now I am done with the subject.

Doesn't it just depend on what you like? Indy is the "best" for some people, and other cities are "best" for others. I've been all over the US and parts of the world, and I love living in Indy - but it's not for everyone.

A take on it
In Indy (Lived there for 2 years) and STL (grew up there) you look at the events for the week and that drives what you do. There will only be a couple of cool things and so you go do them on the days they are scheduled.
In Chicago you decide what day you want to do something and then take your pick of the 3-4 cool things that day.
As you age and have kids and become a dork (like I have) you do fewer cool things. That is why Indy is a good place to raise kids because it has all the day to day crap and the handful of times you want to do something cool you either luck out (something cool in Indy) or you leave for the weekend (because you have $$$ to go do it becasue you house and life are so cheap in Indy). You will probably be able to do this in an area closer to work with more space for less money....and you will eat more Bucca and Applebees.
As for architecture, there is some but not much in Indy. MK homes are nice 1900-1940 arericana classics. A few other pockets downtown. It is not lower Manhattan, CC Philadelphia, or Pacific Heights; but the price there trippples or quadrupples.
Indy is not diverse for a city of its size; but much of the midwest lacks diversity as well.
In short, the highs are not as high in Indy nor are the lows. If you want a diverse urban existiannce, don't go there. Chicago is better, but if you really want diverse and urban there are better choices in the US.
35 plus with kids and like the burbs, go to Indy....

Indy really is a sprawling suburb and a great affordable place to raise a family and I think im glad ive brought my young family here to raise. While it may not have all the "culture, art and attractions" of other cities in the MW it does have a central location. Jump on an interstate and I can be in Chicago less than 3 hours, cincy 2, louisville, columbus Detroit and st louis all reasonable drives. Then I can enjoy all their culture and attractions without having to actually live there. A nice little bedroom community in Indy with good schools is where I'd rather live and raise a family
