Default Avon Short Term Home Rentals

We are in the process of building a new home to be completed in Dec/Jan. We currently live in Avon and our new home will be built in Avon (which is why would prefer to rent in the area). Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way of finding a short-term (6mos or less) rental HOUSE in the Avon area - should our current house sell quickly? Everything I see online shows they want a 12 month lease - but I would think there has to be another alternative. We are looking for a home to rent specifically because we will need a large garage for storage until our home is built. We have looked at the option of renting an apartment and putting our belongings in a Pod or PackRat type container, however, we would much prefer to hire movers since some of our furniture is rather large.

Any ideas - or other alternatives? Am I being unrealistic thinking we could rent a home for 6 months or less?

Thanks!

It's hard to find a 6 month house lease. What if you had as a contingency in the sale of your home that you could leave a pod onsite until January?

There is no way our homeowners association would allow a pod to sit on site for months (we live in a pretty nice subdivision).

Hi! I do know of a few houses for rent, but I doubt they would go for a 6 month lease. I have heard of some of the apartments doing a short term lease, but the monthly rent is higher, of course.

Of course, you can also find out if your buyers would consider letting you rent your own house back from them for a few months. Of course, you never know, you might not need to worry about it at all in this market! How long has it been on the market so far?

We were in a nearly identical situation years ago, except we only needed to rent for 3 or 4 months and had to be out of our home in 3 weeks. We placed an ad in the local paper. Ended up renting from some people that were unsuccessfully trying to sell their home. We still had to put up with the showings, etc. but it was definitely worth it to have a little elbow room and not need to rent storage space. Might be worth a shot...or does Avon have a Craigslist?

Avon is part of Indianapolis as far as CL is concerned.

I can tell you from direct experience that short term leases are nearly impossible to find around here, as I spent 3-4 months looking for them both in rental communities and homes.

I like the idea of posting something on CL, but to be honest I think you would be lucky to get a response. I posted weekly, if not more often, and got nothing.

Good luck - and if I might ask, where are you building and with what builder?

RM

I was going to suggest just that, but the problem is that they house may sell in less than six months. Heck, it could sell in a month and then they'd be out of luck.

That's a good idea. It might even be better to stipulate that the closing won't occur for six months, so that you remain responsible for the mortgage and any damage to the property during that time.

Gorgeous neighborhood. I prefer the Brookstone homes at the back though, over the brick Dress homes. They are just so unique and neat. Although, I know they are higher maintenence. That would be a big factor for me.
