I always liked Vito's on the corner of 86th and Ditch. They made all of their own sauce, crust, etc. Sadly, they closed recently. Their deep dish pizzas were amazing. I have yet to find a local place to fill the void they left in my stomach. I may have to start driving to West Lafayette and visit Mad Mushroom for my pizza!

For families ... no, but I don't think that Indy is boring for families either.
Nap, you hit it on the noggin with the jobs issue. You see the commercials touting our governor's great successes and our AAA bond rating (waiting to see how much better that makes my life ... ) and honestly, as much as mass transit would be fantabulous for the city, as long as jobs keep getting cut, there won't be any jobs dowtown to get to ... sorry about the gloom and doom, maybe it's the surgery I had yesterday (did y'all miss me??)... who knows. I did read the paper this morning and got pretty riled up when I read that the Children's Museum recieved a 12.5 million dollar grant from the Federal Transit Authority in DC to improve the Children's Museum ... I love the CM, but that is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard ... what does the CM have to do with mass transit .. that walkway between the garage the lobby??? Boy, they must have some very creative grant proposal writers.
Drugs, I need more drugs!!!

Don't get me started about that infernal sausage pot pie that passes for pizza in Chicago.
That said, I'll agree that Indianapolisites (ha ha) always seem to recommend Bazbeaux and occasionally Puccini's or Some Guys for pizza. I like all three, but they all trace their roots back to Bazbeaux, which has a thin, almost unleavened crust that a lot of people may not like. It's thin, but not like New York style pizza. I think the quality of the toppings and sauce make them better than the Papa John's/Domino's of the world, and unless you get a specialty pizza it's not terribly expensive. But there's definitely a void in the quality pizza market here. It's been a long time, but if I recall, Union Jack (in Broad Ripple and Speedway) had a pretty good Chicago-style pie. If you like that kind of thing. Which no reasonable human should.

Thank you thank thank you.
Since moving here I have been searching for 'real' pizza. Looks like I found it!

I'm not a big Chicago style stuffed crust pizza fan. I like to taste the toppings, you know? Nancy's makes a great thin crust and their sausage is real, not the rabbit dropping looking stuff you usually find. Nancy's also makes a very good beef sandwich.

Not that it is relevant to Indianapolis, but Roca Bar in Evansville has some of the best sausage pizza I have ever had. They have giant chunks of sausage for toppings. So good!

for now i think Ballard seems to have the Balls to run the City of Indianapolis. he helped bring Moto GP here, The 2012 Superbowl( which was probably going to be here anyway even if he wasnt elected) and the 2012 Republican National Convention might be here. although i wouldnt be surprised it if changed locals after the election results. I like Ballard's "back door" approach he got rid of aggressive panhandling, and is developing a Greenway System for Indianapolis and is making Indy more "green" Indianapolis. because of Ballard's/Daniel's leadership more companies are locating and expanding here. he started the front Porch alliance to help curb crime. and he has gotten the community more involved with community affairs. which should be put first before regional/national affairs.

I really hope we don't have the GOP here in 2012. I like everything else in your post; I think Ballard has done a good enough job.
Is it to late to plug my new favorite pizza place? Maria's in Fountain Square, on Prospect Street across from the Fountain Square Theater Building. It is so good; easily my new favorite local pizza. If you are ever in the neighborhood, swing by and say hello to them!

no its not to late but this thread was to talk about what The City of Indianapolis needs. not to tell people about your favorite pizza parlor.

In that case; Indy needs people to support its local businesses; such as Maria's on Prospect Street in Fountain Square
