Default Property tax between Carmel and Zionsville

Zionsville has much higher property tax than Carmel though both cities are similar in school quality and property values, as well as located next to each other. I have to pay $6000 for a $270k house in Zionsville. However, the same model built by the same builder with higher price at Carmel only carries a tax bill of $3500. So far there is no luck to get my property tax down. Anything else I can do?

At the risk of sounding like a smart-alec, move to Carmel. My understanding is that taxes are higher in Zionsville due to its zealous anti-development stance. There's not much of a commercial base to spread the burden of additional roads and schools over, so homeowners take the brunt of it. Carmel doesn't have that problem. Neither does Fishers.

grmasterb is right. Zionsville doesn't have the commercial businesses that Carmel does. That's why your tax bill is higher.

if it makes you feel any better, we pay above 3% here in DFW .

That's the one thing I will always miss about indy, how taxes were rather low AND you saw your money go somewhere.

You could wait until until 2010. Unless something changes by then, all property taxes will be capped at 1% of the assessed value if it is your homestead.
