You might find a trip to Cincinnati interesting. They have a nice zoo, a great natural history museum in the old art deco train station, the aquarium in Newport, KY, and of course one of the most interesting grocery stores I've ever seen - Jungle Jim's.

If you travel via I-75 stop in at Berea KY. It is just off the interstate and a great little town.
