I grew up on the Southside, and I think the change in the past 15 years since high school has been tremendous. Apparently Perry Township schools have stopped busing to promote racial diversity because there is no need. Hispanic and Asian families are much more prevalent, and African Americans have started moving into once white enclaves, seemingly without problems. Housing is affordable here at the retail, though hardly upscale like it is on the Northside, is certainly more desirable than the Eastside. Apparently 30 years ago, the Eastside was a pretty happening area and Perry Township was looked down upon as "the South"--but this side of town these days is generally booming while the Eastside is still reeling from some major factory closures in the past 20 years. I hope the Eastside can recover, but at this point the positive momentum seems to be directed toward the Southside, which could hardly be considered white-bread anymore.

Some parts of Indianapolis are racists just like some parts of the state of Indiana as a whole are somewhat racists. The southern part of Indiana, like Evansville. Where they have a high white population and about 10 to 12 percent blacks and other minorities. Your signing up for a difficult time and people will point you out by your color and try to associate every known stereotype to you. Trying to find an area that has a good racial mix and a low crime level isn't easy.

I've heard some really nice things about both of these areas: Avon, IN and Plainfield, IN but when I look at the demographics, as a professional black woman. I would not want to live in either of those areas ... they have no diversity at all ... they should just put up a sign say: whites only.
Avon, Indiana (IN) (pop. 6,248)
Races in Avon:
White Non-Hispanic (95.3%)
Hispanic (1.4%)
Two or more races (1.1%)
Other race (0.7%)
Black (0.6%)
American Indian (0.6%)
Plainfield, Indiana (IN) (pop. 18,396)
Races in Plainfield:
White Non-Hispanic (94.3%)
Black (2.2%)
Hispanic (1.4%)
Two or more races (1.1%)
American Indian (0.8%)

I find it equally prejudiced of you to assume that just because a particular community is 90 percent or more white, the folks there must be a bunch of bigots. You took your crack at Fishers in another thread. Yet here in my subdivision in Fishers there are three black families on my block, and the gentleman who maintains the common areas for the subdivision is a well-liked and respected black businessman -- he also lives in the subdivision. All are good neighbors. Among my friends here in Hamilton County is an interracial couple in Noblesville.
Are there racists in Fishers? Probably. I just don't know any of them. I bet you can find some south of 38th Street. Besides, the folks in Carmel and Fishers are too busy worrying about class to worry about race. Take your race-baiting elsewhere, please.

Keep in mind that White Non-Hispanic includes alot of people. Plainfield has an abnormally large Middle Eastern population. Their are alot of Chinese and Japanese in Plainfield. White Non-Hispanics include Italians,Canadians,French,Germans,Poles,Finns,Braz ilians,Indians,Eqyptians,Chinese and a whole bunch of other nationalities. I live in Plainfield and have friends that are Finnish,German,Russian,Brazilian,Chinese, French,Indian,Egyptian and Fillipino. I can atleast say for Plainfield that it's faily diverse but if you want to stick straight to what the demographic percentages show then yes it's not diverse.
