North VS. South
Ok i have read teh N vs W, now what about the South?? I have read a lot about Carmel/Fishers areas, and YES from the TOP 100 places to live....but i know someone who had lived in Greenwood ALL HER LIFE and just moved to Carmel, LOVES it!!!! While she said that Greenwood is nice and great schools, she said Carmel is so much more "ahead" than Greenwood. She lived in a NICE area of Greenwood, Center Grove......and now in an upscale area of Carmel....
I just worry that it (Carmel/Fishers) sounds like it may be too much of why we are leaving California.....does anyone have a clue???That can fill me in... The people i know of, obviousley make way more money than we do, so they live a different lifestyle....kind of like us here in California, BUT we are looking to slow down. While she claims that Ca is way ahead of Indiana, she also stated that Greenwood maybe too slow, for what we are used to....
We are looking for a CLEAN, nice, GREAT scool district, Upper middle class neighborhood to raise our kids in. We are not snobby Californians, and can mix pretty well...
So if anyone has the scoop on South to North, let me know......have a great day!!!

Center Grove Schools in White River twp/Greenwood are excellent schools. One of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the area, Claybourne ... is that what it's called, is located in Bargersville, which is part of white river twp. The line that separates Hamilton/Boone from everywhere else is marketing.

I second Bears fan's sentiments regarding Center Grove/White River Township. There are plenty of nice areas on the south side. The negative for some may be the lack of upscale shopping as that is primarily north. If you're into the normal Penneys/Macy's, etc., Greenwood Park Mall offers that.

Now, as you know, I am not from these areas, so PLEASE tell me your opinions on these stereotypes. These are things I have heard and NOT witnessed:
North: you can not even go to the grocery store without a full face of make-up, hair done and designer jeans. If you are not dressed right, you will not fit in, and forget about high school. I have heard that if you are "different" at all, you will have a very hard time.
South: Once again, I don't have personal experience about this, but I have heard that the south side of Indy is quite racist. Is there any truth to that? I have actually heard things about the KKK??!??!!
Now, PLEASE don't get mad at me for these things, I just want to know if there is any truth to the things I have heard.

Miki, I'm a guy, so maybe your "north" comment doesn't apply to me, but I've gone into the grocery store here in Fishers several times in my grass-mowing clothes, unshaven, ballcap, etc. No one seems to care, best as I can tell.
As for the south side, I've never resided down there, so I can't say with certainty. My observation, however, is that folks on the south side aren't much different than anywhere else in the metro area. Perhaps the accents do start to turn a bit Kentuckiana, but the Midwest is full of southern transplants. I'm aware of the local joke that U.S. 40 (Washington Street) is the Mason-Dixon Line.

I freely admit I have only been to Greenwood a handful of times in my life. But when I was there I didn't see any really nice restaurants, any upscale shopping or any really, really nice neighborhoods.

Why in the world is it okay for you to post stereotypes about the North and South sides, yet ask that your post on the North versus West not turn into a bash the westside post? Seems like a bit of a double standard to me frosted over with the "I've heard" sweetness.

Yes, the southside is full of full blown racists. About once a week there is a Cross burning to bring the neighborhoods together. People walk around wearing pointy hats and white sheets ALL of the time. In addition, the Southside is full of ignorant rednecks. 8th grade is when almost everyone quits school. Toothpaste was even invented on the Southside, otherwise any place else it would have been called TEETHpaste.
Even worse is the inbreding going on on the Southside.
So yes, everything you have heard is true. Please do not move here.

Zig, easy does it ...
Micki .. your assessments are wrong, sorry. There are snobby "be seen" people there, sure, but for the most part, it's come as you are, live and let live. I don't put up with such silliness and there are plenty of people there who don't either.

Even though my name has 'Southside' in it, I don't reside in Greenwood. However I have been down there enough to know that it is a fairly decent and relatively safe community. However, in my humble opinion, I much prefer Carmel, Fishers and the Geist area over Greenwood. There is just so much going on in the north end that it makes the south side boring by comparison.
