Question Township schools from IPS neighborhoods???

I recently heard a rumor and wanted to see if anyone has any concrete information... As far as I understand, in the past if a family who lived in IPS school district wanted to send their kids to township schools (e.g., Washington), they would have to pay tuition. However, I heard this rumor that along with the city/county government changes to the tax structure, this is no longer the case. I was told that families who live in IPS can now (or shortly in the future) send their kids to township schools for free.

Is this true?

I would be totally surprised. IPS does not want to give up any students and the townships certainly do not want to get any.

It's true - but there are limitations. Here's an Indianapolis Star article about the issue: Will 'no tuition' spell chaos in Indiana schools? | IndyStar.com | The Indianapolis Star

The gist of it is that township schools used to charge tuition to transfers from IPS districts based on the difference in what the state pays per student. Since education will now be paid for by the state, that difference is pretty much gone. BUT that doesn't mean township schools must accept transfers. Carmel, for example, is not accepting any student transfers now.

So don't worry DataEast - not sure what you meant by your comment, but I get the feeling you don't want "them" in your school.
