What Lakes do people go to for Boating??
We are big into boating, not fishing or wake boarding, but just getting out on the water, day camping with our kids...where do you do that there, if you live in say Carmel?? How far and what are they like??
My husband is comingout for our FIRST visit, on Friday, and staying for a week...we are looking to relocate from S. California..... We are looking into Carmel area, and he will be looking all over the areas, all the way to Greenwood.
Any suggestions?? While he is there? We have 3 little kids, and looking for a GREAT place to raise them and have a slower pace of life, but not po-dunk. We are just normal parents, tired of California.

Geist and Morse Reservoir are the two closest lakes of any size that allow boats. Geist is probably the more popular of the two, located in the NW side of Indy/ Fishers. Morse is in Noblesville, so probably closer to Carmel depending on where you are. I am not sure what you are expecting, but these are not huge lakes but there are big enough to have some fun. If you looking for a lake to spend some time at, Dale Hollow(sp?) on the Tennessee/ Kentucky border is very fun.

Lake Monroe in Bloomington ... Brookville Reservoir .. but you won't be boating now ... it's colder. During the summer though, Geist can get kind of crowded, not sure about Morse.
Carmel, for as nice as it is, is truly landlocked. Retention ponds are about as good as it gets for water.
Too bad he's coming this Friday, the weekend fall colors were spectacular.

Thanks!!
I know he missed it, or atleast most of it!!! My friend sent over some pics, they were BEAUTIFUL, so atleast we get the idea!!! I am more concerned about the "dark winter", So I am praying this is our spot, and we will be back out at Thanksgiving, and then we can get a better feel....
Boating, i know it will be NOTHING like we are used to, we go to Laughlin, which would either be the Colorado River side or the Lake Mohave side, a Huge body of water, with mountains and extreme heat, about 125 degrees in the summer. We just came back for there, this weekend and the water was cold, but temps were still 96- Now that is something i was truly sad about, and then i got back to California and was ready for the "for sale" sign to go up. But if you have ever been to Bullhead City Az, Laughlin is across the street, it is NO PLACE TO LIVE!!!! but a wonderful vacation spot for FAMILIES boating, not too crazy like Lake Havasu!! Not for kidos!
Thanks again, and i wish i were coming out on friday!!! boo-hoo
