Moving to Indy! (Plainfield, Avon: apartments, rentals, house)

Not sure when, but sometime within the next year. I'm not sure whether to buy or rent.... I'm leaning towards renting initially.

I'm looking for something not too ghetto and not too expensive.
Has to be:
1. within 10 miles of the airport
2. dog friendly

I'd prefer to rent a house.

I've been watching craigslist and looking at rent.com and apartments.com but I can't find anything I really like, and I don't know the area so I don't know if I'm moving into a bad neighborhood. I was advised to stay outside of the 465 loop.

any ideas?

If you want to be that close to the airport, then yes I would advise you to stay outside of the 465 loop - because there are very, very, very few nice areas that near the airport inside the 465 loop.

I would look in the plainfield area and maybe Avon - you should be able to find somehting in either of those two areas. Plainfield is closest to the airport - Avon is a little nicer area.

I live and work in Avon, and I can get you info on homes for rent in the area, but of course, I would prefer that you buy.

Homes are very reasonable in the area. You should try to get a feel for the area now, and then when you are ready I can check what is available. I have limited resources for rentals, but I can at least help advise you one neighborhoods and such. All I ask is that you remember me if you ever decide to buy or know someone who does

Thanks for the offer! I would like an older house that I can remodel, but I probably won't be out there until June or July at the earliest!!! So I guess for now I will just look at what's available to get an idea.
