Thank you Goat.
I appreciate your "stay out of" post.
Yes you are right. For a few months I can sleep on an air mattress if it means not staying in a scary place like Pickwick.
Anyway who knows what is on those mattresses? Ick. Another subject.

Stay out of:
Pickwick Farms
Spyglass
anything around 71st/Michigan
any apts s of 96th, with the exception of a couple along 86-9600 Allisonville
limit your search to Fishers/Carmel

You can (supposedly) get a 1 bdrm at the Monon Loft apartments in Carmel for under $1000/mth. Not as much space for the $, but location is wonderful, they're new. Oops, probably not furnished though. (Although Carmel also has a great consignment store.. Amanda's?....) Good Luck!

Looking for ethnic restaurant recommendations
Will be moving to Carmel next week!
I didn't find "temporary" furnished housing-- way too much for my budget.
Now let's talk about food...
I recently tried Vietnamese food on a friend's recommendation and liked it but it's a trek going to Lafayette Rd.
No way there's one closer to Carmel but I'm also interested in finding a Thai restaurant nearby.
Recommendations/suggestions appreciated!

Indianapolis Ethnic Food Restaurants, Reviews, Markets, Recipes, and Festivals
Probably more information on ethic food places in Indianapolis than you could ever use. Great dated reviews with specific information.
We ate at Swadee (spelling?) on 86th and Ditch. Great and fun atmosphere.
Wonderful food.
We ate at Shanghai Lil for Chinese by Keystone at the Crossing and also loved it. High end and creative. Much better than the chain Chinese across the street.
I like to read the food blog, feedmedrinkme.com, for comments on Indiana food.

I love Thai Smile, it is in Fishers on Allisonville Road, about halfway in between 106th and 116th. It is in a strip mall on the East side of the road just North of Easy St. Soooo good!

I rented Monon Loft apartments two years ago in the Summer for wife and kid since we have ties to Indiana. It was a good place. Convenient to the Monon Trail, Muldoons Bar, Bubbas Burgers. I was also able to get high speed Internet through SBCGlobal with 6 Mbits/s download speed.
The leasing agent was pretty good at the time and she should still be there.

Thai food
I wrote down everyone's suggestions but have been able to try only one so far-- Sawasdee on 86th. Being up here alone, I'm hesitant to go out to eat after dark (and darn it, it sure is getting dark early!). Anyway, I went right at 5 when they opened for dinner. $11.50 for one dish. A bit high for what you get I thought-- not enough to have leftovers. But tasty.
So I've been in Carmel for two weeks now. I find Meijer to be expensive. I miss the prices of a Super Walmart-- where is the closest one?
Any other restaurant suggestions--??
Thanks everyone for your help.
