Default East Coast to Midwest

I'm a 22 year old graphic designer from New Jersey and am looking to relocate to Indianapolis to be closer to my boyfriend who goes to school at Purdue. I just wanted to know how the design field is over there in Indy and if there are many jobs available. Will they be hard to find or will my east coast background make it easier for me to obtain a job? How is the city life there/safety/things to do? Any tips or info is very much appreciated!!

Sorry you haven't got any replies

Have you networked with other graphic designers who have experience in Indy? I'm not sure if east coast will help you out or not, but of course a healthy resume will

Things to do? Indy is a big city so there should be something to do within your interests. Hate to stereotype you based on age but there are plenty of clubs also to kill some time in.

However, there are plenty of clubs to join depending on interests. There's running clubs, biking clubs, medieval clubs, etc...

Safety? Indy is a big city with it's share of problems. I will say though that most of the violent crimes are all located in just a few areas. However, a few violent criminals do travel...

Good luck though on what you decide

So what is your specialty in graphic design? Websites? Magazine? Newspaper? Or? (stepping out on a ledge here since I'm not EXACTLY sure all of the jobs open in your field)

Anything non-graphic design I can help with?

I design magazines, newspapers, posters, & anything print. Not so much web. I know there's not a an abundance of design jobs there but I'm looking for something that'll be able to pay the bills and is somewhat interesting. I've been lookin at the colleges there to see if anyone was hiring a graphic designer..but not much luck.

Sadly, I knew only one person that was in the news and she moved about a year ago due to getting a better job. I'm sure that you've tried: the Indy Star (paper), Indianapolis Monthly (mag), Indianapolis Woman (mag), Indianapolis Business Journal, etc?

Another place that you might try is some of the museums in the city. There is also an Indiana Historical Society that publishes a magazine. There are also a handful of companies that produce catalogs. There is also Lilly that might have need of a graphic artist. Off of the top of my head that's all that I can think of.
