Scouting INDY (and 'burbs) on Sunday...
Hello all.
Ok, my wife and I are considering moving from NW Indiana to the Indy area within the next year or two. Although we have lived in Indiana for most of our life (we spent 6 years in Phoenix), we have never been to Indianapolis except for the Indy 500 a couple of times and that was 15 years ago.
Anyway, we will be looking into the Carmel/Fishers are (as most people seem to do), as well as the nice, safe, established areas of N. Indy (Broad Ripple area and the Butler/Tarkington(?) areas). Also, my wife would most likely be transfering within her company which is located on the west side (8600 W. 10th St.) and any good areas near there would be fine too. I see nice homes online in Avon, Brownsburg and Plainfield, so those areas would be of interest also.
So, Sunday (Nov. 2nd) we will be making our first "scouting trip" down there and will be checking out different areas. We like convenience and variety in terms of shopping, restaurants, ect. We have three retired racing Greyhounds and enjoy taking them to dogparks. We will be adopting a little girl from China relatively soon and would want her to get a good education, so top schools are high on our "need list".
With all of that said, what areas get your vote??? Subdivisions??? We speculate that our price range would be between $220,000-$280,000. We like the newer homes with all their modern conveniences, but the charming, early 20th century homes we like too.
If anyone knows what newspaper or websites to look in for Open Houses, that also would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

The IndyStar has all the open houses in it, they also have the homes on their website (Indystar.com) too bad I'm not doing one this weekend! LOL. I live and work in Avon, and I grew up in Highland! A lot of people do choose Carmel, or Fishers but I preferred Avon for it's close proximity to my husband's work, and I couldn't be happier now. The schools are great, and there is plenty of shopping, and if I want to get downtown it will only take about 20-30 minutes. Your dollar will stretch more in Avon, in my opinion, and to me that was important. I can think of a few nice new home subdivisions that would work for you, plus a few neighborhoods you might want to check out, let me know if you're interested.

Miki,
I GREW UP IN HIGHLAND ALSO!!! Small world! If you could give me the name of the new subdivisions you had in mind and those neighborhoods, I would appreciate it! I think we will be making trips done there frequently to check out different areas, so maybe we can meet you at an Open House a different weekend.
Also, I am a licensed Realtor and would be looking for a company to transfer to. Who are you licensed with and how do you like them? I currently work with McColly Real Estate, which is a local company.
Thanks in advance!
