Default Corporations in Indianapolis?

Such a nice forum!! I am so glad to find this!!!

I am trying to relocate to Indianapolis (carmel/fishers) but there are not too many big corporations in Indy area besides eli lilly and well point. To make matters worse, eli lilly is not really hiring accounting/finance/auditing positions. Is there any other firms that are financially stable and have good office culture? How about the culture of eli lilly and/or well point? I looked at their Financial Statements but you know it is always best to hear from somebody who works there.

Lilly is shedding employees left and right. All retirement eligible need to leave by the end of next year or their pocketbook will take a direct hit. Everything from promotions, job classification, salary, retirement, medical is changing as we speak. Hubby should hear next week on his own job.

Pharma is not an industry to be in right now.

Wink hmm..

Thanks for sharing thoughts...that explains why there hasn't been job postings at Lilly... Indianapolis and surrounding area seem to be very good place to live but not sure of job market... So what kind of jobs the people have in that area? Median income is really high for carmel, fishers, zionsville but how do they make living?

Government jobs dont pay as well as the private sector otherwise I'd suggest Defense Finance and accounting services in Lawerence (eastside). With experience and a CPA you can get in there at a higher GS level but still not competative with private corps. Its a huge operation and they are always looking for accountants

Thanks again for valuable insight. I do have CPA and a couple of years of public accounting experience and a year of private. I will definately check out Defence Finance and accounting services in Lawerence.. Do you know anything about wellpoint? It is fortune 33 company and headquartered in indy..so there should be a lot of people working for the company in Indianapolis area...Carmel, Fishers and Zionsville are all mysterious to me since they have such a high median income but job market around is not good??

Carmel, Fishers, and Zionsville are Indianapolis bedroom communities with high value housing. Most cities have one side of town where the executives gravitated (used to be where the country club was located) and then the corporations preferred settling their relocated employees because the houses were available or being built, schools good, etc. One thing feeds on another.

Gradually over the years Carmel had developed more of a city feel but Zionsville is still the Village and Fishers does not yet have a significant city center.

And the developer that was going to carmel-ize Fisher's downtown just skipped out on them.
