Thumbs up So how about that new Indy airport?!

Not in the area, so I haven't seen it first-hand, but from what I've read and seen in pictures at the Indy Star website, it really looks fabulous! Definitely looking forward to flying in and out of it a time or two next year, for sure!

And now that I mentioned it-- While this 'out-of-towner' is making those trips to Indy to visit family there, I'll be paying somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-30 bucks towards that "Stadium Tax" when I rent a car everyday, spend every night in a hotel, and eat every meal at a restaurant... and will be glad to be doing so!!

I flew out of the new terminal this morning. It is a definite upgrade over the hideous, piece-of-garbage old terminal.

Just two complaints: First, the Southwest counters didn't offer a line for folks who just wanted to print their boarding pass, which is common at Chicago Midway. Also, there's no directory indicating where all of the restaurants are. Not all of the ones offering local fare (e.g. Shapiro's) are in the civic plaza area. Some are on one of the concourses. It is nice, however, that once you get through security you can travel between both concourses, unlike at the old terminal.

I went throught the new airport during the open house. It is alot better than the old one which was small, cramped, had a bad smell and looked somewhat dirty.

When I read that Shapiro's was in one of the concourse, I was thinking that that didn't make sense, because half of the people that fly in/out would use the other concourse, and therefore wouldn't have access to it. From what you say though I guess that isn't right, that once through security you can go from one concourse to another, so that's a good deal there.

I have only gotten news stories on the Indy news stations so can any of you tell me how the parking is? How handicapped accessible? Any smoking areas at all even outside? I will be taking an elderly couple down there in Dec. thanks for your replies!

Can't comment on the parking, but from what I've read, there is no smoking permitted anywhere on airport grounds, with the only exception being inside of a vehicle.

Thank you jeff3166 I was fairly certain on the smoking but wanted to be sure before I passed the news on. We flew out of Indy a couple of years ago I thought there was no smoking I know you couldn't even take a lighter on the flight either.

Anybody know how handicapped parking area? How close to the front door etc.

1BigBear is on a distinguished road
I've been to plenty of airports and the NEW INDY Airport is very clean and Airy. A great feel to it---It's state of the art with plenty of parking, (Lots of hanicapped ) easy access with plenty of lanes in and out for Departures and Arrivals. A cell phone lot , plenty of shops....and nice landscaping. It looks great, I drive by it everyday. Just watch your speed on the I70 exit and Airport Highway coming in ~and on the service roads around the airport. Airport police love to write tickets.!!!

I was at the old Indy airport around the first week of Oct and they were advertising the new airport, so it will be interesting to check it out when I return in May. What are the plans for the old airport/land?

Good to hear on the handicapped parking. I am going to need a vacation after unloading 2 electric scooters, a walker and luggage.

I am curious as to what they will do with the old airport too how far apart are they?
