Need internet connection advice
So I'm going to start my job next week. I would like internet service but wasn't planning on bringing a TV or installing a landline.
How do I get internet? I want to do email and maybe read the news online. What are my options? (I'll be in Carmel.)
Thanks.

The cable companies may offer high-speed internet service without TV service. Check with your provider. In Carmel I suspect Bright House serves your area.

IF you don't mind getting the cheapest land line possible and using ATT, you can get their DSL fairly cheap. I think I paid 25-30 a month before I upgraded to Uverse. I have heard though, that they are bumping up the price of DSL in hopes of getting more people on Uverse. Not sure if that is completely true though. I liked the ATT DSL, it served me well until the wonders of Uverse came along.

In Carmel you will probably be with Comcast. In my experience you cannot get cable internet without also getting cable tv, so you will have to pay close to 100 a month for both. You can get DSL through AT&T, but I believe you have to get phone service as well, which will cost an additional 20 a month or so. DSL and phone will cost around 55 a month. You might be able to get "naked" DSL, which is DSL service without phone service, but you'd have to check with AT&T.

ATT DSL only cost me about 30 a month if you get the 6 dollar phone plan.

It is the cheapest one they have. You can only make X amount of local calls; no long distance. Since I never used it, it didn't matter how many calls the plan maxed out at.

We have ATT U-Verse and all we have is the internet and it is $25 a month, but not all homes can get U-Verse yet. It doesn't require any other services.

You can also get what is called Dry loop with ATT. It is typically 10 dollars above any of their packages. Lowest is 35 but there is a 19.95 package but you have to sign a 1 year term.
