Default Property taxes Plainfield/Avon

Hi all, my husband and I have purchased a home with a Plainfield address but is considered Avon (The Settlement) - does anyone know if the taxes will be out of Plainfield or Avon? Thanks!

Our taxes come from Hendricks County, not each individual town. Congrats on your home!

Do your due diligence and check your property tax assessment, too. You can do it online at the Hendricks County Web site here.

Ours is way out of whack, but mainly due to the house being a foreclosure that sat vacant for nearly two years. However, I also found that my neighbors, who have lots either as big or bigger than mine, are assessed considerably less (25%) for their land. As a result, we ended up challenging the County on the land assessment as well. Since our last assessment was done on or around the time that the market was peaking (2005) the numbers are way off.

We just filed our challenge to the county's assessment last week. They have 45 days to resolve it. I'm expecting a reduction in both improvements and land.... we'll see.

Just remember that if you do decide to appeal your assessment, go in with nothing but facts - anything else is a waste of time. Take your time and do your homework.
