The Central Park apartments would be about a 2 minute commute to work for you! They won't be around $600 a month though.

Does that mean that they will be more or less than $600?

I have just checked out the Central Park apartments. They look good. Is it possible to hire furniture etc. Someone I know who lived in America for a short time hired the job lot.

Yes, you can rent furniture (hire=rent) or you can ask if they have any furnished apartments.

Are local taxes included? Here in UK we have taxes to cover trash being emptied etc and it depends how big the house is. For example my house is 4 bed and the local tax is around $2400 per year.

I think that your trash removal would be included in the rent. Often, apartments here have large dumpsters outside, you take your trash bags to the dumpster, and then the garbage man picks it up from there. Here in the US, we pay property taxes, but trash removal is separate from that, it is a privatly run thing, not government controlled. The apartment's property taxes would be paid for by the owner of the apartment complex, they probably roll a small portion into your rent.

Apartments vary here, some include all utilities like heat, water, trash removal and some even include TV! Others make you pay those bills separately. It doesn't really matter to me, although paying it all together is more convenient. I think the most important thing is to find an apartment you like at a good price and in the right location.

When you are ready to buy a house, taxes will be more important and I will be happy to explain it all to you

Ok thanks for that it's been really helpful. I could do with paying everything together as the company will pick up the bill but i do have a budget to work to.

If half the people out there are as helpful as you I think it will be a good move!!!!

<shameless plug>

MikiJayne was a big help to us when we moved up from Tampa last July. We made her work hard for her commission, but she earned it fair and square. I would highly recommend her for anyone relocating to the area.

Another option is the Camby area, which is probably about a 10-15 minute drive to your job. There are some new apartments called The Bristol where you can rent a 1-bedroom apartment for close to the amount you have budgeted. It's in a very convenient location, close to I-465 to get you anywhere you want to go in Indy, and also close to Plainfield. The apartments are located off of Hwy 67, and near a residential area, not mile after mile of apartments. It's also conveniently located close to shopping and restaurants such as Walmart, Meijers, Applebees, McDonald's, and O'Charley's.
The Bristol

Mooresville, which neighbors Camby and Plainfield, has the Town View Apartments, which are older and smaller, but also much cheaper than The Bristol if price is essential to your selection.

CORT Furniture rents furniture. Rent-a-Center also rents furniture, but they advertise the rent to own plan, so I don't know if they'll just let you do it on a temporary basis or not. If things are only temporary, you might consider just buying furniture from thrift stores as long as it's clean.

There are great colleges within easy driving distance whether you choose to live in Plainfield or Camby. IUPUI (Indiana University/Purdue University at Indianapolis) is located in downtown Indy, Marion College, University of Indianapolis, Butler University, and Franklin College are among the major schools here. There are also numerous business and technical schools such as Indiana Business College, International Business College, Art Institute of Indianapolis, Ivy Tech, and ITT Technical Institute.
