Hi! might be relocating to Indianpolis from Southern California. I know nothing of the area, other than what I've been researching online. I thought, "what better way to find out than to get to know the people who live there?" I put together this little survey to try to get to know the people of Indy, find out which towns might suit us best, and maybe even make a few friends. No need to answer all the questions--just have fun. Thanks for helping me out!
1) Male/Female: 2) Age: 3) Any college? If so, what? 4) Any kids? If so, how many and what age(s)? 5) Where were you born? 6) In what town do you currently live? 7) Do you own/rent? 8) If you own, how much is your home worth? 9) What is your family's combined income? 10) Religion? 11) Do you go to church/temple/etc.? 12) Name your top three family values: 13) List your top three political concerns and what (if anything) you're doing about them: 14) Have you ever been to California? If so, what did you think? 15) Have you ever been to Europe? 16) What are your hobbies? 17) What do you do in your free time/on weekends? 18) Describe your neighborhood/neighbors: 19) Would you recommend living where you live? 20) If you could move anywhere, where would it be? Thanks again!!! ![]() |

1) Male
2) 23 3) Graduating IU in May 4) None 5) Kansas City, Missouri 6) Bloomington, but was raised on the North Side (Carmel) 7) Rent 8) N/A (parents' house: $300k) 9) <$20k currently, as a student 10) Catholic 11) Yes 12) Unconditional love, education/learning from experience, tolerance of others 13) #1: horrible education in the US #2: the war and the lying bastards that are profiting from it #3: moral issues like gay marriage and abortion I write an opinion column for the IU newspaper (www.idsnews.com) and I research extensively before casting a vote for a candidate 14) I've never been, but would love to go 15) Yes, twice. 16) Photography, writing, watching my Super Bowl Champion Colts 17) Movies, new restaurants, bars with my fiancee & friends, Colts & Hoosiers games 18 & 19) I live in Bloomington right now, which is about an hour south of the city. It is a Big Ten campus town, so there is a tremendous amount of diversity and culture, but calling Bloomington a part of Indy metro would be a lie. Since it is a college town, my neighbors are college students. I used to love this atmosphere, but I am graduating in May and have honestly had my fill of partying and so forth. I was raised on the north side, in the suburb of Carmel. It is probably the wealthiest of Indy's suburbs, but I think Zionsville and Avon are giving it a run for its money (literally, I suppose...). In Carmel, you will find a pretty diverse mix of people ranging from typical suburbanites (think minivan, 2.7 kids and a black lab) to the chic super-rich. Generally speaking, I would say the eastern half of Carmel is older construction (60's to mid-80's), and most people would fit into the minivan/black lab category. West Carmel, by contrast, is where you will find the mansions that Indy's wealthiest occupy. There are exceptions to both of these generalizations. Carmel and the rest of Hamilton County are outstanding places to live and raise a family by most standards; the schools are fantastic and the housing is super affordable, which means you should have no trouble finding a very, very nice house for like $300-400k (don't quote me on that, I am not in the market and never have been, I am just going by what I've heard and the signs I've seen near new construction). The area is constantly growing, and every time I venture north from Bloomington to visit family I come across another new development. Both Carmel and Indianapolis are being agressively updated right now. In short, I would highly recommend Indianapolis and Carmel as a place to live. 20) Since I am not sure whether you mean within Indy or anywhere at all, I will answer both. Indy first: right now, my fiancee and I are actually in the process of trying to find a place to live in the city as we are both finishing school in May. I am struggling to decide between downtown and the north side (86th & Michigan or Castleton), but all other things equal I would have to pick downtown. As far as anywhere goes, I would love to live in Japan. I find everything Japanese highly interesting, and I think Japanese food is absolutely to die for. Assuming I have unlimited money in this fantasy land, my next stop would probably be Germany or Italy, because I am a history buff and would love to have that kind of rich history at my fingertips. Good Luck in Indy! |
