I grew up in Carmel, and now live in Fishers. Both areas have their strengths and weaknesses, but if school system is #1 priority, I'd pick Fishers over Carmel simply because of the dual high schools.

Carmel really blew it 15 or so years ago when they decided to make the high school bigger instead of building a second one. Sure, they have great athletics, but the competition to make the team is tough...if you do make the team, you rarely get to play, unless you're outstanding.

Class sizes are too big, teachers are stressed (my mother just retired from being a guidance counselor there for over 25 years, and my step dad is a recently retired CHS teacher). Kids can slip through the cracks.

Again, both are excellent, but I think Fishers is headed in the right direction when they added Fisher High School this year. It will only get better. So I'd choose Fishers.

SJU
that is a mighty insightful response and much appreciated. Thank you so much.

Domergurl, maybe you shouldn't leave Fishers because the school system is so wonderful there.

I haven't been to those specific neighborhoods, but I believe they are all near each other, so are probably very similar. What kind of info on them are you looking for? You can try a website like www.subdivisioninfo.com and search for Fishers IN.

NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCE. Every one of them.

As for the school situation. Yes, it's going to be hard to leave Fishers schools. But hubby's commute is getting awful! And by the way, a third high school is being fast tracked now. The schools were the breaking point for us 4 years ago when we were choosing between Fishers and Carmel. I like that HSE is willing to forsake athletic prowess for academics ... what a concept! Besides, as I recall, Hamilton SE is kicking butt in sports this year. Carmel is good, but the HSE schools are every bit as competitive. They won the state boys swimming title this year. Their girl's b-ball team was #1 most of the season and their girls' softball team is #1 too.

True about HSE athletics this year, but remember, all the seniors are still at HSE....Fishers HS goes up to Juniors this year only (first year it's open). They'll be split up next year. Not that that is a bad thing acedemically, but athletics will be different. But, more kids will get to participate-- which I love.

Sorry if I missed an earlier post...but where are you moving to, and where does hubby work? Just curious...
