I hope Domergurl and plaidmom are still reading this. I was josephinny, but now upnorthgirl. I'm new at this stuff and for some reason couldn't get back into the website, so changed my name. Thanks for all the info.
My husband started work this week and found a nice community called Tipton Lakes (I think), what are your thoughts on this area. We are coming from the Detroit area - I am excited about the cost of living in Indiana. Our town is also located in a place where Road and Mountain bike trails are 2 miles from my home. I also drive to various mountain bike trails that are within 25-30 minutes, so reading about Brown County State Park makes me look more in Columbus than Center Grove area.
Plaidmom -No Fixed-gear for me, though my neighbor rides one - too old for that. Your info on biking gave me great relief.

Tipton Lakes is a very nice area just outside of town. But being outside of town, just means that it will take 15 minutes to get places ... no big deal. We looked at many houses there, can't say anything bad, just the house we ended up liking was up here. We did find a no home owners association neighborhood appealing though, but that's just us. We also like that we can bike or walk to school up here. I believe you have high schoolers ... Tipton kids go to Northside, which will probably take about 20 minutes to get to, but they have busses ...
Again, nothing against Tipton Lakes, it's a lovely area. When we were looking at neighborhoods, we did it based on schools and then focused on our favorite house that fed into that school. With high schoolers, you have a big swath to cover.

I wrote a bit more in this thread:
http://www.city-data.com/forum/india...-here-plz.html
The only thing I would say, is that for you, Tipton may be a great choice:
a) your kids are older (?) and can do the driving
b) you'll be ~10-15 min closer to the good mountain biking

You guys have been AWESOME, great info.
Everything in the Detroit area is 10-15 minutes away, so the driving I don't think would be a problem, but we will most certainly look all over the Columbus area. Aside from Tipton, can you guys recommend other neighborhoods/ subdivisions. We don't live in a neighborhood with a home owners association, so I have no experience with one - does Tipton have one?
I'm going to look at the thread you suggested plaidmom.

I live in Forest Park ... no HOA here. I will say though, the HOA's around town (yes, Tipton has them), aren't as intrusive as most you hear about. Most HOA dues are used to keep common areas nice. We just lived in 2 other HOA communities and decided it was time to not live in one if a house presented itself. It just worked out that way.
The nice thing about Forest Park, especially if you have a swimmer, you are within 5 minutes of the school/pool. I can bike there in 15.
You said that your hubby is already here. Are you hanging out until school is over for your kids or will you move when your house sells?

We are waiting to move after school is out. Who knows when our house will sell. we haven't put it on the market yet. The Detroit market is awful right now, as you can understand with all the automotive chaos. We want to move down before the upcoming school year. It sound like school starts in Indiana in August. We start the day after Labor Day weekend and go through the middle of June.
Thanks for the info on Forest Park, I will have my husband look in that area as well.
Also, I sent you and Plaidmom a direct message, don't know if I sent them correctly, hopefully you received them.

We did the same thing. We put the house on the market on April 1st and we literally moved the day they packed everything in trucks on the last day of school.
Let me know if you need web addresses for soccer/swimming/schools/parks & rec etc. There are a couple houses for sale around the corner from me, both relocations/job transfers. Usually, the Columbus market is brisk, but alas, with the ecnomy .... blah blah blah.
