Smile Apartment Recommendations for NW Indy?

Hey folks I'm relocating to Indy from Ohio. Can anyone suggest some apartments in the NW side of Indy? I'm looking for safe, quiet places that aren't too expensive. (No more than $550) What other sides of Indy are ok? (West, North, etc...?)

There are a ton of apartments on the NW side of Indy. Not too much experience on that side of town myself. I do know that several are not nice at all. Be careful, do some investigation, and also remember you get what you pay for.

Generally speaking anything for less than $550 is not going to be very nice. Either will be in a bad area or the apts might be old and run town (or maybe both). Your best bet to to come to Indy and visit 10-15 different places. Also check out Apartmentratings.com

I don't know anything personally about this place - but it seems to get good reviews.

Rent starts at almost a thousand there. The OP needs to increase the rent budget by a couple hundred or find a roommate.

Not really, there are plenty of one bedroom apartments in decent complexes at or under 550. I just rented a two bedroom at 549 plus utilities last year off Ditch Road.

Same here. I just rented an apt off 73rd St near Ditch. Rent was $530 for a 1 bedroom with a patio and space to plant flowers (and not in pots either!). I am paying an extra $30 a month to rent a washer and dryer though. Apts are very nice with a pool and fitness center. I'm also getting new carpet and paint along with countertops.

You can certainly find an apt for $550 a month. What I hear from others though is that the NW is hit and miss with good neighborhoods so be choosy.

Depending on how much of a commute you want, Southport is a good area. Lots of shopping close by, Greenwood Park Mall is 10-15 mins away and it's close to 65. I know there's apartments near Emerson and Southport, can't remember the name but it's behind Target. That might not be too quiet though.

NE is affluent, but a HUGE traffic headache. I looked at apartments off of Allisonville Rd for $550 and they were extremely nice. Again, close to shopping and business. Places to avoid: from my personal experience, stay away from 38th St. I live in a nice apartment and when I chose it I foolishly ignored the run down houses and people loitering. The first night I moved in I heard gunfire. I've also witnessed a rape. That was the last straw for me.

Beech Grove is a nice area but it depends on how far north you go. Don't know much about the West side.
