there are a lot of reasonably safe areas to live around Indy and in the greater Indy metro area. Of course there are also some older bad neighborhoods like Indy's near east side.

Worst areas? Until you learn the city, I would say anything close to downtown.

I don't think there are any safe areas in Marion County. You have to go to the outlying areas, Mooresville, Plainfield, Avon, Carmel, Fishers and Greenfield. I don't think Greenwood is too bad for the population either.

I wonder if most realtors do the family watchdog check for their home seeking clients. Bet most don't.

If there is anyone out ther that has lived in both Chicago and Indy and compare the pros and cons of relocating to Indy please respond. Anyone familiar with the Castleton area and knows if it is a good place to move to please let me know. I am planning to move to Indy from Chicago and am trying to make sure that I am making a good decision. Please help!

I moved here (Fishers) after living in and around the city of Chicago for 10 years. Castleton is nice. You'll be car bound that's for sure. Don't let anyone tell you that traffic is horrible because compared to Chicago, traffic here is a joke. Be ready for food shock. Here, it's mainly chain restaurants and I've only found 1 pizza place that's good. Nightlife is what you make of it, but again, you will need to drive everywhere.

It's not the most exciting place to live, that's for sure, but everything is cheaper. You'll be able to save money! Which is pretty difficult to do in Chicago these days.
