Moving to Fishers from Chicago
Hey all,
It sounds like there's a wealth of knowledge on this site. This summer (or spring, or fall) we're moving to the Fishers area from a north suburb of Chicago. Does anyone have any opinions of Brookston Place subdivision? We're not too worried about traffic; our current location is training us well.
Thanks!

We lived in Grayslake & Valpo prior to moving to Fishers in 2003. Brookstone is a nice neighborhood. The location is fantastic. Close to the water .... surprising amount of amenities within a few minutes.
You'll enjoy it there.

Thanks for the reply. We live at Midlane Club in Wadsworth right now. It's amazing to see the difference in cost of living!

Amazing isn't it??? You'll really feel it in the property taxes! I remember back in 98, we paid almost 10K on a 220K house, no exemptions, just give Lake County your money ... grrrrrrrrr. I adore Chicago, but man, I DON'T miss that one bit!

FYI,
Just an update... We decided to build a home with Beazer in the Enclave at Deer Path neighborhood in Noblesville. We ended up spending about $175k for 2100 sq ft 4 BR 2 1/2 bath 2 story with 3 car garage and about $30k in free upgrades. It should be finished by mid-September!

I dont think Hamilton Towne Center can really be considred new anymore. Its been around for what 2-3yrs? I do believe Greenfield Avenue(Indiana 238) is being widened in that area of Noblesville/Fishers.

Wow that sounds like a great deal. We're looking in Noblesville, Fishers, etc right now as I consider relocating from NJ. Would you mind sharing more info on this? Even via PM perhaps? We're looking at existing homes up to the $180k range. Sounds like you got a lot of NEW house for the same money. Trouble is, we need to make the move before the next school year.

You might look into builder's spec homes. They sometimes have homes that are brand new but move-in ready because they used it as a model or someone signed up to build it but backed out or whatever.

steve,
I can't give you much more resale info than what you could find on the realty websites right now. Our realtor showed us a few houses, but most of our shopping was done online since I'm still in Afghanistan and my wife was in IL. Most sites, fctucker, callcarpenter, and other local realtors' websites were good, but I'd stay away from Zillow. There were at least 3 houses listed on that site that when our realtor looked them up found out they were sold over a year ago. Emotional roller coaster for sure. We did have a couple interesting existing prospects when we chose to build. F.C. Tucker Realtors
There are some nice houses around Geist Reservoir, but keep in mind once you cross into Marion County (south of 96th St) your property taxes will be substantially more. We don't live in the area yet, so we can't quite tell you the in's and out's of the area as well as others can.
We decided to build because we were finding we could do that for the same price we could buy, and we prefer new over existing. We looked at most builders: Arbor, Centex, Pulte, CP Morgan (until they went out of business) and Beazer. It was a toss up between Pulte and Beazer, but we couldn't get the Pulte home under $184k. Most of the Pulte spec homes will be around $230k, so that fits your time frame but not your price. I'm not sure if Beazer has any spec homes in the neighborhood, but i do know they're selling at a pretty quick rate. Hopefully others can be more helpful. Happy hunting!
