Husband transferring to Indy. Need help finding a great place to live.
Hello.
My husband is transferring to Indy for his job. We live in NW Indiana now and are looking for a small town just outside of the city to raise our children. We have a 16 yr.old, 11 yr. old and a 3yr. old. We want low crime, good schools and affordable housing. We want 4 bdrms, 2 baths, and a little room to strech out (.24 acre) Looking at spending $160,00 if possible. We have been looking in Franklin and Whiteland. Greenwood seemed to crowded. Can anyone suggest others areas that might work for us? And give the the good and bad of them. We would like to keep the husbands drive less that 30 minutes from Beech Grove.
Thanks.

What part of Indy is the job, and what is your price range and neighborhood preference? The welcome wagon requires more info.

The location of his job is Beech Grove. We would like to stay around $160,000. Quiet, family friendly, room to move our elbows w/o knocking into somebody (haha) easy access to I-65 or 465, good schools with a understanding of what it takes to prepare our children for the future. Small town and things to do and restraunts to enjoy

Lots of people love Greenwood, I live in Avon and love it, Franklin and Whiteland are nice areas too. You might want to check in Plainfield too.
Where in NWI are you from? I grew up in Highland.

Franklin Township (Southeast Marion County) also has a lot of open space if that is what you want. You would be right by Beech Grove, have access to the interstates, and the schools are very good.

We live in Saint John in Hanover Twp. We are looking for small town. If you are from Highland then you understand. It is a nice place also.

Franklin is wonderful and their new high school is a sight to behold! We looked in Franklin 2 years ago, but found the housing stock old, too much work to do ...
Another area is Bargersville, which feeds into the Center Grove School system. It's not as crowded as most of Greenwood.

Shelbyville might be worth considering, too. I would think that would be no more than a 30-minute commute, and it's a straight shot down I-74.

Thanks. We have looked at a few in Shelbyville. My husband is used to driving the Dan Ryan Expy in Chicago. So we are def. looking for a much less busy commute.
How are the schools here? It seems Eastern Shelbyville has a higher test scores than Central. Is there a differance between them?
We liked the fact that downtown Franklin has an old time square and it seems they have a ton of town sponsered events.
