My daughter just got into the K grade at the international school - while interviewing 2 weeks ago, my wife and I met a number of transplanted UK residents, both teachers and parent of students - moreover, there were other parent and teachers from France, etc that we also met - my point is that there seems to be a rather vibrant "ex-pat" community in this midwestern town, so you should be fine indeed! BTW, I just completed a year long assignment in London and Bournemonth - outside of the mnthly travel, it was an amazing experience - hope your time here is just as good...Cheers!

I hope it's not too late but please PLEASE don't send your children to IPS or Pike or Warren schools. Go somewhere else because I don't want them to have a bad impression of America.

Richard Burton was Welsh.
I know, technically, Wales is part of Great Britain...but in my experience Welshmen do not like being referred to as British.

I believe Richard, when he was alive, was widely considered to be a Brit actor. He certainly never objected to playing the part.

But if you called Burton a Brit to his face, he would have punched you in the mouth.

I've been in Wales and never had a problem with a Welsh of any sort.

I would agree with the Avon and Plainfield posts. I did student teaching at Avon while in college and the schools there are great. Both areas are convenient to downtown. I also agree with the folks who say Indianapolis public schools are awful. Please don't put your children there. If you are wanting to live in the actual city, you need to be living a little ways north of 38th street for sure. The area on the east side(but not the south side) of Butler University has some nice homes, as does Broad Ripple and most areas along Kessler Boulevard. As a general rule, the farther north you go, the better off you will be as far as safety and schools. Indy does have a fantastic downtown though.

I love the internet! We are also looking at moving to Indianapolis from the UK. Different for us though as my husband and I grew up in Indianapolis but have been gone many years. If I can e-mail Brit66 privately, perhaps we can compare notes on moving companies.
We have 2 daughters, adopted from China, who have been attending an all girls British school. They have loved it too. I was curious about the post about an International school. Prior to the UK we lived in Dallas for 12 years which had an international school but it we could not afford it. They attended Catholic school there.
We will need to look for a house to rent. We always liked the Booth Tarkington - Meridian Kessler area. I saw someone posts about Zionsville. I was only there a couple of times when growing up but have always liked small towns. It is important to us to have people from all sorts of backgrounds.

Hey,
Don't forget Brownsburg when you talk about Avon and Plainfield. All 3 are in Hendricks county and all 3 have good schools and homes at affordable prices.

I don't think Broad Ripple would be too pricy. I would however suggest you go to fishers, noblesville or carmel areas. Much better schools and better communities and in Indianapolis new constructions are cheaper than existing.
