Default ►Water Softener ? Recommendation Needed -

It seems Indiana has some of the hardest water around.
So~ I'm now in the market for a water softener. I have a 5 bed /2.5 bath home. Any suggestions on what systems work and DON'T work→ keeping in mind -the PRICE-
I've looked at a few
Cullligan / RainSoft / Kinetico ....and other brands.

Any suggestions from users....?
Thxs

p.s Why IS the water so hard ? Glasses are fithy right out of the dishwasher and the water spots everything.(the shower? fuggetabouit) ..weird. Never seen it so bad.

There is a cool thing called "easy water" that doesn't require salt. It connects to the pipes and somehow the electrical frequencies change the molecular structure of the water or something to make them not stick. It's something about Faraday's Law, which ties in with the TV show Lost, I know, but I'm not making it up, LOL.

It is more expensive in the beginning, but might make up for it since you don't have to buy salt. Also, it takes up way less room.

We had an Aqua Systems softener in our current and previous houses.

Indiana water is so hard because there's a ton of rock, particularly limestone, underground. The water passes through all this rock and picks up the deposits that are driving you crazy.

We've had a Culligan solar water softener for a couple of years now and it works really well. Cleared up the deposits on the glasses and dishes and hair feels clean again after it's washed.

By the way, once you've got softened water, you'll want to remove the spots. Just mix up a vinegar/water solution, let the affected dishes/glasses soak in it for awhile, then clean off with a sponge. This works remarkably well.

Oh, and if your fridge doesn't have a filtered water dispenser, you'll want to also install a filtered water system. The softened water is very high in sodium, so you don't want to drink it.

I have to recommend Culligan because it does a commendable job keeping the water soft using solar salt.

I recommend Kinetico as its features provide benefits that other unit can't match. They are not cheap but will last for decades and won't have problems that many other systems have.
