Actually, they're not. The overwhelming majority of people who prey on children are friends and family members. Paranoid nonsense like that is one reason why it's so hard to get families to live in cities.

if you find a house that you like at a reasonable price I'd say go for it put a good alarm system in with a sign out front most of the people that have trouble around this neighborhood bring it on themselves I live in the neighborhood for many years we happen to have good neighbors if someone moves in around you that is suspect then start calling police this area needs good people living in it there aren't many places around with the kind of houses in woodruff and the surrounding area it can be a great place if all the good people stand together

Default Rentals??

Hello Woodruff Placers!
I lived there about 25 years ago, and LOVED my little apt on West Drive.
Am looking to move back to IN (currently on the east coast) and have been thinking how great it would be to live in Woodruff Place again. If anyone has any info or contacts for rentals, I'd surely appreciate it.

I lived in Woodruff Place from 1958 to 2000. I witnessed the decline and resurrection of Woodruff Place during that time. Prior to the annexation by the City of Indianapolis, it was a gated community with restricted access. I never experienced any crime while living in Woodruff Place. But like living in any big city, one should not be careless as crime can strike anywhere and anytime. I would not hesitate to move back to my old home in Woodruff Place if I needed to. Probably the most annoying things about living there was the aircraft noise of the red-eye flights coming in at 4am-5am. You will hear sirens from police, fire and EMS practically everyday going down 10th Street and Michigan Street. I simply got tired of City noises and traded it for more soothing sounds elsewhere. I do miss my home on East Drive. I lived very comfortably there.

It is Woodruff's unique History that makes it distinct.
It's early period was the setting of Booth Tarkington's Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Magnificent Ambersons
As Tarkington describes, Woodruff put in the statues and fountains that give the Place its character.
Here's a picture of one of the Fountains:
