I need info on Indianapolis,,,,,,, anything would help. PLEASE!
Hello, i am thinking on moving back to the states(from PR) and Indy is on my mind. I am an ESL Elementary Teacher with a BA on the field; i have a 5 yr old son,no relatives in Indy nor do i knw much about it. I just want a change of life, for my son and financially. Current research that i have been doing tells; Indy is known to be afforable, safe, friendly and with large employment opportunities. ( public school teachers/ anual salary is $34,000 aprox.,"so, i have read"). Is this true???? and how about the schools are they good???, which communities are best/safest and at the same time central? Housing $ 50,000, is this also true? and are they worth it? Like mentioned i am a single mother, with a young boy so safety, schools, parks, housing, pediatricians, hospitals and everything else is in my concern. Having my Degree, will help me get stable "quick", i hope. Any information provided will be very helpfull, living in Puerto Rico and wanting to move to Indianapolis is a huge jump, so almost every arrangment will have to be done by Internet, and maybe a 4 day trip, for anything else before i make the "JUMP". Life is full of chances, all we have to have is courage to make a change in our lives and that is what i am doing. YET... any, any information will be VERY VERY helpfull. Thank YOU

Why aren't you considering Southern California, Texas, or Arizona where there are more ESL schools?

Most of Indy is safe and it is a very livable city - definitely more small town than big city in its feel. Easy to get around in. Housing is very affordable, but I think median home price is more like $150,000, not $50,000 (still well below average). It depends on where you live. A few areas are a bit dangerous. IPS (Indy schools) aren't great but there are a couple decent ones such as charter schools. It's a crap place for a single person but a great place for a family!
