Carmel? Fishers? where should i move
Hi! I need some help. We may be relocating to the Indianapolis area and my husband's job would be in Fishers. 5 years ago I had visited (possible relo then) and really liked Carmel. HOw long would the commute be to Fishers? I know Carmel is large...also, would love any opinions on the following subdivisions and welcome suggestions for others that are similar (gated communities)--Bridlebourne (Carmel), Laurelwood and Bridgewater Club. We want more than 1/2 acre (ideally around 1 acre) and have concerns about Bridgewater Club because of the school district being WEstfield and smaller lot sizes and mixed housing. We do not like Village of WEst Clay.
Also, we are hoping to get at least one of our children into Park Tudor this year if (or next year) and don't know what the commute time would be (i hear they don't have a bus system) but, want a very good school system.
Would love any opinions! Thanks!

I have friends in Fishers ... they live in Windemere (not gated, but still a lovely neighborhood) and both their kids go to Park Tudor. This gave them the option of the great Hamilton Southeastern public schools. The Anchorage in Fishers is gated in Fishers and I want to say that Forest Knoll wanted to get a gate. The neighborhoods around the Hawthorn Country Club, although not gated, is still very very nice. A lot of people have patches of land and put up gates themselves ...
We lived in Fishers for 4 years. We chose it because of the situation with Carmel HS being too big ... it's still a fantastic school system, just a choice we made.
The commute to Fishers from Carmel is about 20 minutes depending on where you live. As for Bridgewater ... if you are going to P-T ... the commute time down there from the Bridgewater Club isn't bad at all .. plus, I'm sure there are many car pooling opportunities within the community as I'm sure there are other P-T parents that live there.
Best of luck.

Driving from Carmel to Fishers and vice versa is a breeze. It's more like a 12 to 15 minute drive under normal circumstances.

You can find plenty of snobs in Fishers, too.
And you should've written that the kids there are self-centered. C'mon, Trevon! If you're going to represent Pike High School in this forum, then represent well!

The kids in Carmel are definelty not self centered. Thats just my opinion. i have friends up in Carmel and often spend time up their when I have free time and I can say from what I've encountered their not self-centered. Now snobby I can somewhat agree on. To be honest Fishers isnt that much better.

I can remember the first time going to Fishers from Zionsville along 116th street and it seemed to take forever. Not because of traffic but because of 116th being so straight and with so many stoplights( East of US 31) I did this on a Saturday? and it took about 25-30 minutes( or atleast it seemed like it) to get from US 31 and 116th to 116th and Olio.

116th is a very wide roadway with 4 lanes. I can run right along at a good pace and only find heavier traffic along the short stretch between I-69 and the old downtown section. Other than that it is normally clear sailing.

It is thought of by many in and around Indy that the people in Carmel and Fishers are snobby, but I think mostly it is just because it is the more affluent area of Indy. I believe that you will really find that anywhere there is a "rich" side of town. I am sure that it has been that way forever, too. In the 1910s and 20s I am sure people thought folks from Irvington were snobby. In the 1930s and 40s it was the people from Butler/Tarkington. In the 50s and 60s it was the Glendale area; and the 70s and 80s moved the snobs north to Castleton. Now it's Carmel/Fishers; and the cycle will continue. But once you really get to know people for who they are and not where they live, you will find they are exactly the same as you.

I prefer Fishers. A great area! But you may prefer Carmel. I think Carmel you get more snobbish attitudes, but that is just my opinion. Either way it is no problem driving from one to the other. But to get around everywhere else in the indianapolis area it is easier to do from Fishers than Carmel. Carmel traffic is very congested and not as ease of a commute.
