Are there any Gyms or Health Clubs located in (or very close to) downtown Indy that people would recommend? I saw a couple locations for Lifetime and LA fitness, but they seemed a bit further from downtown. Thanks!

It depends on what you want in a gym. In my case, I do all my work outs at Anytime Fitness because it's open 24/7 which is ideal for my unpredictable schedule. They have several locations around the country and the world if you do a lot of traveling like I do. Here's the downtown location: 47 S Pennsylvania St, 2nd floor, Indianapolis, IN. map link > http://goo.gl/maps/3EPAJ

My husband and I go to National Institute of Fitness at IUPUI. Impressive and run by really well trained people. Four complete sets of equipment from different manufacturers. Olympic weight room with new equipment, rows and rows of all kinds of treadmills and rowers, etc. Climbing wall, Pacer basketball court, cushioned track, Les Mills classes, all kinds of other classes. Amazing clean locker rooms. Boxing area and discount for Natatorium.

All kinds of free guest passes just talk to membership. Downstairs in the NIFS building and directions are on web.

Membership comes with parking pass for garage across the street.

Check out the YMCA inside the city market building, too. There is reserve parking in the service lot across the street.

Been going about 4 months and feel great. Classes allow flexibility for ability and leaders don't yell and push beyond ability. Even have a couple of 90 year olds in our low impact aerobic classes. Les Mills classes can be intense but the student decides on the weight to use so all can participate. The spin classes are well attended and boy can they sweat. Runners, walkers and stair climbers are always using that equipment. We have some soccer and basketball players on court.

Part of membership is a fitness assessment and a four week program with trainers to build a individualized program. All optional but beneficial to point to areas of improvement. The trainers are always available and told us they really want to help people because if no one is needing help, they clean equipment. "-)

They have senior, student and regular memberships and probably more types than that. They also contract with various companies like Lilly to run their exercise programs.

High energy, high quality and huge variety.

I was on a spinning bike this morning. A great cardio work out with less impact on your joints.
