It gets dark late in Indy
Just an observation:
It's 9:45pm, I'm looking out the window and it's still not completely dark outside. It seems a bit strange because I'm not used to it.
I guess it's because we're very close to the mid-West time zone, but not quite in it.

Years ago Indy was in the Central Time Zone where it belongs but they wanted to be on the same time as NY so they voted itself into the Eastern Standard Time zone. With daylight savings time being voted in a few years ago Summer solstice was about 10:20.

enjoy it while it lasts. It seems that in the winter it's not even 5:00pm and it's already dark

We used to tell the kids they had to go to bed when the street lights came on, which was about 8-9pm, now that is out the window, and I have to convince them that just because the sun is still up at 9, it doesn't mean they can be!!

Yea, it's a royal PITA to convince kids to go to bed when it's still bright outside. Thanks Mitch!

There are many areas or sections of KY and IN where you actually have to drive NORTH to change from Central to Eastern time zones, which is a real oddity East of the Mississippi.
Out west → in NV, UT and ID it happens alot.! (West to Mountain time)
I love the late sunsets.! And in Terre Haute, it's even later! → and 70+ mins Earlier in Bangor, Maine !

We moved from Vermont to Indianapolis, and it was difficult to get used to because we were in the same time zone, but it gets light and dark about an hour and a half later. It totally threw off my body clock! It was even worse than changing a time zone.
I do like the west side of the time zone better, though. In the summer in Vermont it is completely light before 5am. That drove me nuts!
