Relocating to Indy
We are going to be relocating to Indy sometime close to January. I've been looking at suburbs and really like Greenwood. I have two kids 12 (7th grade) and almost 6 (Kindergarten).
Can someone give me information on the school districts within Greenwood. Which one do you prefer & why?
Any recommendations for neighborhoods? We'd like 4BR/2.5BA preferably with a basement. We don't need a huge yard but would like enough for a trampoline and space to play ball.
Also, if you have any other suggestions for other suburbs I would love to hear them! My husband will be working in the city and we'd like to keep his commute under 30-45 minutes.
Thanks!!

We looked for homes in Greenwood and Bargersville. The Center Grove schools (White River Twp) have better test scores, but I know many a Greenwood HS graduate who have gone on to be very successful as well. The Center Grove schools are newer.

Thank you! Test scores alone don't really tell me much, ya know? They all seem like pretty good school districts....just wondering what the locals prefer & why.
Do you happen to know anything about Avon? That's another area we're looking in to.
Thanks again!

Greenwood HS feeds into Old Town Greenwood, which is a mix of refurbished old Victorians probably inhabited by pretty well-off individuals and some working class areas on the west. It is generally less affluent than the Center Grove area, which is almost purely residential and very high homeownership. Greenwood HS is probably more racially diverse (South Indians, Latinos, some African Americans) and has less reputation of being snobby--Center Grove feeds into a very white collar area so most of the parents of kids in the schools are probably college educated. Less so with Greenwood but still I imagine a good, well-funded school. The Greenwood catchment area has more going on, including an increasingly well-developed trail network; also has public transportation access to Indianapolis. Center Grove is mostly unincorporated so public services aren't as great, but they still seem to spill a fair amount into the schools. I would think it's a toss-up really, and schooling would be fine in either district.
