Ok, i'm sure you can parade your ignorance around in plainfield with your beer belly and deer hunting friends, but since your on the internet your views are on display for everybody.
Looting, riots, and murder?
We were all in big trouble for a brief period of time but it now seems like the recession is coming to an end. California has the largest population, of course the problems of our state will be magnified.
There's also many different interest groups that have conflicting ideas which help to slow down legislation. And on the question of socialism, if california didn't have high taxes in contrast to your state or other social programs, the inner cities would have been pulverized after the dot-com crash and subsequent lay-offs of workers following free trade agreements that sent hoards of factory and other trades off to third world counties so they could pay them less. (mexico, china,) Companies such as dole fruits canning operations that employed numbers of people before moving over-seas for slave-labor.

So it's not ok for JAPP (who is FROM CALIFORNIA, btw) to state his opinion of his former home, but it is ok for you to thoroughly insult Indiana with your view of what Hoosiers must be like. You too, are on the internet, and spreading your hateful views. Not only that, but you took it to an ugly, personal level, while JAPP only stated his political views.

I'll take credit for the relatively juvenile approach i began with in my last post. Nevertheless, it would appreciated if you would respond to the rest of my post, as i find that to be of more importance than the one sentence your determined to focus on.

Clearly most people were so turned off by your first sentence that you lost all credibility from that point onward. That said, California will recover from this like it has from everything, and I do suspect it will remain "the land of milk and honey" to many, but it does not seem to be in a particularly enviable position at this point. Regardless of what people think of social programs, you need a certain sector of the population who is both able and willing to pay the taxes for said programs, and it does appear that, with rampant white middle class flight, low homeownership rates, and a huge proportion of non-taxpaying undocumented citizens, the tax base of California has eroded to the point that the state is in a position of long-term insolvency. Good luck.
Indiana will never be California--it will never have the diversity of natural beauty. But it shouldn't try to be. A lot of coastal-dwellers are having to check their egos at the door when they realize that some of the less trendy parts of the country to which they are fleeing may actually be more competently managed.

California was where I was born so in a sense it has never been, ''trendy'' for me to live here it is completely for financial and networking reasons. My friends and I have discussed the pro/cons of the state many times and often concluded that we should leave...but couldn't afford it. So we are mostly just as down to earth as any other region, the stereotypes that are created come from the transplants who have naive visions of everything really and make the state look ridiculous. The Los Angeles economy is so incredibily diverse that it has no chances of losing steam. The small towns and states across the nation have been hit harder by the current recession likewise and it will take them longer to get back to where they were before. And i'm referring to the small towns in California as well.

Cali is NOT my state anymore. In fact, I'm very glad I moved out of there.
In case you didn't know... In CA it's quite common for government employees to earn 100-200% when they retire. Illegal immigrants have put a tremendous strain on social services. Treatment is free for them, but the state ends up paying for all of it. All of this massive spending is completely unsustainable. It's been going on for years and now it's coming to a head. Big companies and small businesses are leaving the state because they can't afford to keep employees or hire new ones. They're also getting taxed to death. Residents (like me) are leaving in droves too.
Big government is NOT the answer. The government is incompetent. Everything the government has run or is in charge of has been a failure... Medicare, medicaid, social security, the US post office, etc...
When the entitlements stop and the money is all gone, the state is doomed. Yes, there will be massive civil unrest, looting, riots and murder... just wait and see. It will eventually spread throughout the entire country... better get ready for it.
The recession is NOT coming to an end, in fact we're in the first stages of a major depression. The stock market is not an economic indicator... right now it is being controlled and manipulated by the FED, the US Treasury and Goldman Sachs (they are really one in the same). For the last few years, Wall Street has owned Washington. People should be up in arms about all the bank bailouts (OUR MONEY) that the government has handed out, but they're not because they've been totally zombified by mass media. They would rather focus on Michael Jackson's death, American Idol and their crackberries and iphones.
BTW, I have a six pack and I've never killed a deer (or any other animal) in my life, however I do have a shotgun for home security.
