Default New to Indy south east

I am african american and just moved to Indianapolis. I picked the south eastern side (Wannamaker area) of town because I work in Decatur county. So far everyone in my neighborhood is nice but I noticed a lack of diversity on this side of town. Can anyone provide advice on a good black church or highly diverse non denominational church.

Eastern Star is a predominately AA but the satellite campuses are diverse to a certain extent, particularly the Fishers location, from what I've heard and read. The website is Eastern Star Church - "Where Jesus Is Exalted, And The Word Is Explained" They broadcast on a few local radio & tv stations {listed on the website} so you could 'try before you drive' if you want. I've been watching the broadcast sporadically for years and enjoyed and learned from every one I've caught.

There's also Bethel A.M.E. which bills itself as the oldest black church in Indianapolis. Home

The northern half of the city (above Washington Street) is considerably more diverse than the southern half.

You will have to commute to the inner city and central part of the city to find a black church. Where you live (Franklin TWP) is about as white as they come.

Wanamaker and Franklin Township is probably the most homogeneous area within Indy city limits, but it's also fairly affluent, well-educated and generally accepting of minorities. You probably won't find an AA church nearby. Non-denominational "highly diverse" churches might be a stretch as well, since the area is mostly white, but my guess is most non-denominational churches would welcome other ethnicities. I know there is a large Sikh gurdwara along Southeastern Avenue, so they at least have a reasonable Punjabi community, and I'm pretty sure there is a Hispanic population as well, if a smaller one than everywhere else in Indy.

I have to take issue with that argument that north of Washington Street is far more diverse than south of it. That may be true in Franklin Twp, but have you been to Perry lately? Around Southport/Homecroft is exceedingly diverse, with large Latino, Burmese, Middle Eastern, and Indian communities. Greenwood Park Mall is much more multiculti than it was ten years ago.
