African American Friendly Areas in Hamilton County
Hi everyone,
As you can see I am new to the forums. I currently live in Indianapolis, but am desperately wanting to move to a nicer area.
I am African American, and I haven't lived in the Indy Area very long, so Im really unfamiliar with which suburban cities and towns are not "racist".
I don't want to offend anyone by this post, but I don't want to buy a home in an area and realize later that we are not welcome.
I am really interested in moving to Noblesville, but also saw some nice homes in Westfield. I noticed from this site, that these places are over 90% White.
Please let me know what places I could consider in Hamilton County that aren't racist.

Well to tell you the truth Southern Hamilton County in general is a bit racist. Not to discourage you or anything but if you lived up their. Expect to hear some comments now and then from others who live up their.

I completely disagree, my boyfriend is black and he does just fine - never had any problems what-so-ever. If you are a nice neighbor, don't cause any problems,(no matter what color you are) you'll do just fine.

gdude ... where are you getting your information. Seriously. Fishers has a big African American megachurch and there are many families of all races living in southern hamilton county because they want their children to be in good schools. If racism is a concern to anyone then things turn into a big self fulfilling prophecy because one is always on edge for the worst thing to happen. My suggestion is to take some afternoon trips up to areas and spend some time ... get a feel.

"I currently live in Indianapolis, but am desperately wanting to move to a nicer area " IF YOU KEEP THIS PERSPECTIVE YOU SHOULD BE FINE. WHAT AREA OF INDY DO YOU CURRENTLY LIVE IN? IF YOU HAVE A MINDSET OF GOING TO CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR NEW CITY YOU SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEMS. PLENTY OF RICH/AFFLUENT BLACK PEOPLE LIVE IN HAMILTON COUNTY.

Concur with the others, gdude, your statement is unfounded. I live in Fishers and there are three black families on my block, and they're generally good neighbors. And, as I've stated before, Carmel only cares about one color -- green. Also, one of my friends is a black man married to a white woman, and they reside in Noblesville.

I wouldn't take the demographics TOO seriously...
I remember reading that some county was 90% white, but when I got to the area, it was a whole lot of black people - so much I thought I had the wrong directions or something .
I searched on Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed, and found out for that particular zip code, it's 80% black...

I'm just going off of when I went up to Clay Terrace and then at a later time Hamilton Towne Centre. I went up with a few of my friends who were African American and we heard a few comments.

I never knew that Fishers had a huge megachurch. I know Southern Hamilton County is quite diverse, it's just I've never met a black person that lives in Hamilton County. I do concour with you on taking a few trips up their.I would also suggest maybe going to a restaurant or bar/club and talk to a few locals to get a feel of the area.

Basing a decision about the racism of a population on a few comments from people in a shopping mall area who could come from hours away, lacks accuracy. Better to be specific.
It is important that the poster feel comfortable himself/herself in the area. I had an issue when we moved to the suburbs in Raleigh NC and found myself with only one other woman in my age range who stayed home. All the others had lots of kids or kids and jobs. So I was pretty lonely during the day.
Better for me to have done more research into my needs and moved to a community with older residents. Had nothing to do with race but more with compatability.
Comments would be easier to solicit if the original request had not been posted in the negative. Better to ask where to find XX rather than where is racism. Those who find the area good might be more likely to post their positive experiences.
