Tell me about Plainfield, IN
Relocating for job in Indy area, but DO NOT want to live in the city. Need to know about rental property, public school system, hospitals (specifically maternity care), commutes fr and to Indy (Speedway area). Relocating from Stafford, VA area and want to get away from the rude, aggressive driving, illegal immigrants and wanna-be-gangsta thugs!!!!
I'm looking at Plainfield area (WEST), Gladden Farms. Looks like they have everything I am looking for from hiking trails, kid fun, good schools, but what will the commute look like to Indy.
Also looked at Grande Reserve @ Geist (NE in Lawrence Township). Very nice.
ANY L.E.O's (help a former L.E.O) on this forum tell me the truth about some of the townhome and apartment complexes to definitely stay OUT of!!!! Which areas do you get the most calls for service?
Thank you!

First, a warning......like any other large metro area, Indy has some illegals and wanna-be gansta thugs.
As for Plainfield, I leave it to our resident Hendricks County experts......Paging gdude and Miki!

I am so fed up with 'these people'. Been living in Stafford, Quantico and Woodbridge area for nearly 8 years and coming from Bloomington and Bloomfield, IN areas I am ready to come HOME!
Waiting for Hendricks County experts...thanks for the quick response!!!

I live in Avon, which is just North of Plainfield, and I like both areas. Avon is a little closer to Speedway, but both would offer easy commutes. I don't know a whole lot about apartments though. I would say to get to Speedway would be 15 minutes, depending on where you're going exactly.

Thanks MikiJayne...I was looking at Avon area as well but wasn't sure if it was closer. I'll look around there for rentals as well.
Ok, as I do more research I come up with more questions. to Avon and Plainfield residents...are the planes flying into the airport a nuisance to the community. As we move away from Marine Corps Base, Quantico I am excited to say I will no longer have to listen to the annoying and daily blasts of the Marines blowing things up with their high explosive training toys.

I do not notice the airplane noise. If you are sitting outside, maybe once in a while it gets loud, but if you're inside with the TV on, you don't even notice. Now, that is in Avon, so I don't know for sure about Plainfield.

When you live/go further West (past 267), the airplane noise is barely noticable.
To the OP... if you hate rush hour traffic, please do not live in Avon. RT36 (Rockville Rd) is usually bumper to bumper traffic during rush hour.
Rush hour traffic in Plainfield is very easy to deal with. RT 40 always moves at 45 MPH unless there is a traffic stop or accident.
I've only been in Plainfield for 5 months, but I'm getting to know the area very well. If you have any specific questions, please PM me. Gdude is more of a Plainfield expert than I am.

Plainfield is a wonderful community to live in. Great schools, shopping amenities, religous diversity, low crime, affordable cost of living, lots of restaurants to choose from, traffic is manageable but is growing.

Airplane noise in Plainfield is very loud near the Industrial district and along the I-70 corridor. Other than the noise shouldn't be to bad in other parts of Plainfield.

US 40/Indiana 267 from Dan Jones east to the county line may move around 45 to 50 mph but I can definetly tell you going west will be much slower. US 40 from Vestal Road to Carr Road averages around 25-30mph due to the heavy traffic and the narrowing of the bridge at White Lick Creek.
I can share more information about Plainfield later. Right now I'm pressed for time so I must go.

If you were going to Speedway from Avon, you wouldn't need to use Rockville Rd/36.

True. I was just making a point that RT36 is a pain in the @ss during rush hour.
