Highland Park area
I'm looking at apartments in Indianapolis and have seen a couple near Highland Park. Can anyone tell me anything about the safety of that area? I'm in my mid-20s and would love to live relatively close to IUPUI and downtown.
I've also seen a couple apartments posted in the area around Lucas Oil (Google Maps has this area marked as Babe Denny). Does anyone know if this area is relatively safe? For example, one of the places listed there now is at 909 S. Missouri Street (barely north of the 70).
Thanks for the help!

It's a pretty run down area. I'm not sure about crime, but I assume it isn't great.

I hope you are not talking about Highland Park. It is not run down at all.
Babe Denny, that is a little on the gritty side; and not the cool kind of grit.

Do a Google street view of that address and tell me what you think. It doesn't look great.

industrial, old, rundown, a few single family hidden that have been improved but all by themselves. Possible if the building is inspected and there are no liquor stores next door. Also watch the traffic. Some of those areas south of town are rapidly deteriorating and there can be bars on every corner. Pretty much all the business that has survived.
But every now and then you might find something doable. Just dont expect anyone to feel comfortable visiting.

That address provided by the OP is not in Highland Park.

Right, the OP asked about two areas. I was only referring to the second, not Highland Park.

Thanks for the info on the Lucas Oil/Babe Denny area! I'll steer clear of there.
Anyone have thoughts on the area around Highland Park?

Highland Park, like some of the other areas on the very near east side have cleaned up a lot. I was just down there this past weekend, it is a nice little urban hood.
