Default Garfield Park-South

Hello all,

After getting set straight on 46th and Arlington (my suspicions were correct), I'm now coming to you to ask about the Garfield Park-South Neighborhood. It seems like an adorable community that is well taken of, and the price range for the homes is just right. Still, my biggest concern is safety. Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated.

We enjoyed a community garage sale. An area of older little houses some nicely renovated but the age of the population concerned me. As people get older and have to move out, who will move in and what will be the transition. Will it be seen as desirable or not??? I dont live south of Lilly so have had little contact. I did note several operating businesses along the southern border of the neighborhood and do not know if they cause any traffic or concern.

Not too many easy access amenities and there are a lot of older bars on the major streets running north and south. At least the neighborhood seemed to be working together on the garage sale and that was a positive sign. My husband said there are a lot of positive activities held in the park itself.

From downtown to I465, I call it part of the donut struggling commercial area. You will have Kmart which has a grocery but the other businesses are thrift stores, car lots, misc businesses which come and go. Target pulled out of the area. Southern Plaza is struggling but hanging on with Kroger, Office Depot, a discount clothing store, bookstore, movie theater, etc.

Garfield Park-South has a very involved neighborhood association, or so I am told. I play at Garfield Park all the time. Great park, and I love the neighborhood as well.

I'd describe it as a working class "neighborhood", it feels like they put more emphasis on community than alot of other neighborhoods, even the ones with more wealth.
