New Colts Stadium; Worth it?
With the dawn of football season on the our heels, I thought this might be an appropriate time to get opinions on the new stadium and whether it's worth the investment and extra taxation or not.

Well, the city bet the farm on it being successful ... one can only wait and see. I'm still giddy that the Bears christened the place for the Colts ... with a victory!

I believe that the new stadium will probably prove to be a good move in the long run, provided the Colts can keep winning and drawing large crowds.
Speaking of the new stadium, I need to get some Lucas additive for one of my cars.

I'm sure it makes up for losing the Super Bowl to the Colts.

Superbowl was a neutral site and the Bears weren't supposed to be there to begin with ... but the Bears christened the Koltz house with a victory for them!
Oh I knew I'd reel you in gmb!

Oh, now.....the Colts weren't supposed to be able to play in bad weather, and the Bears were supposed to be the more physical team. Instead, Chicago got dominated in that game. I'll take a SB win over a regular-season loss anytime.
As for the topic at hand, I think it's too early to tell. However, for the city to keep the Colts as well as some of the larger conventions, it was absolutely necessary to build a new stadium. A better argument is whether Indy over-did it on Lucas Oil Stadium, particularly the retractable roof.

The question that needs to be asked is what was the alternative. Not build the thing and have the Colts move out of the city, not expand the convention center and continue to loose convention business to other cities. Either of those would have been disastrous for Indianapolis

Lucas Oil Stadium had to be built to keep the Colts and expand the convention center. No question, in that regard, it was absolutly worth it.
Now, did we really need the retractable roof? Did we need a giant glass wall that can open? Did we really need the 50+ plasma screen televisions? In my mind, the answer is definitly not. When you consider the extra costs associated with the roof, and the number of times it is actually open; I don't see how the benefit outweighs the cost.

Well the new Stadium is getting the city the Final Four Tournament every Four Years, which is actually every 3 years for Mens and Womens. Big Ten Tournament and of course Superbowl in 2012. Its going to be a huge investment starting in March, so people quit complaining. Its only costing 1 penny per dollar extra. Move up to Chicago and then complain about taxes. This city is so cheap compared to Chicago or other cities its size!
